Spanish conservatives win general elections

Spanish conservatives win general elections. “Spain’s opposition conservatives swept commandingly into power and into the hot seat Sunday as voters enduring a 21.5 percent jobless rate and stagnant economy dumped the Socialists — the third time in as many weeks Europe’s debt crisis has claimed a government.” Ah yes, the socialist paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

  • The cynic in me (which is most of me), expects us to soon find out the following:

The people of Spain did not elect the conservatives to change the way things are done. They elected them to change the result. In other words, fix the economy, the debt, jobs growth, etc.

But under NO circumstances do they want any changes to the 6, 8, or however many weeks (months?) paid vacation time, the 4 year pregnancy leaves (incl for males) with 90% pay, retirement at 60, etc.

As soon as the conservatives say "we need to change this, get rid of that", etc., watch for the outrage, the demonstrations, the scathing editorials, and the eventual election of the socialists again.

So what do they really want?

To have their cake and eat it too.

    • Awright, sorry, it's Manuel from Fawlty Towers, couldn;t think of anything else or how else to capture his essence.

  • Viva la revolucion!

First up, right the fiscal ship and dump the Euro. Second, stop the moslem immigrants flowing in from North Africa (they're colonizing, not assimilating). Third, help us fight terrorism again.
