It looks like race together died very quickly after people starting asking hard questions about this stupid program. You also see a bunch of places on the web asking why Starbucks does NOT have stores in high crime/minority areas like Ferguson Missouri. They don't want their cute little stores burning on national TV. Must be fun to sit in an office and think up goofy shit that is not appropriate for a business just because your a liberal and believe that you are smarter than everyone else. Selling coffee ain't rocket science...

  • The Louis Stokes Wade Park VA has a starbucks (staffed by vcs employees.) I asked them about this subject today, and neither of the 2 workers had heard anything about it. But the young woman said she'd have to look into it. They both are, well, I'd call them black but they may have a different name for themselves.
    but then they mayn't have to engage customers re: race relations bcuz 2010 census figures indicate that cleveland is 53.3% Black or African-American, where as White (non-hispanic) is a mere 37.3%.

    The racial makeup of the village (where I live) was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.6% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.

    the village is a mere 70 miles from Cleveland.

    *edit. if you're thinkin the village is redneck central, well, i wouldn't disabuse you of that notion. and yes i do use the word that starts with near but only when describing PARTICULAR individuals. but i ain't no redneck i'll tell ya that for nothin. And yes i miss the communities I lived in before moving up here because it's even more multi-hued than cleveland. but we were all Texans, well, 'cept for my el salvadoran amigos.

    then, drop the empty cup off anywhere you know it'll be read by the public... and of course, be sure to drop one off back at the SB shop as well.

      there are ppl for who meet and/or exceed the definition of the n word. I'd never capitalize it though. A person of dull, ignorant, dim-witted and lazy in spirit who's activities are most noted by taking credit for other people's work. It is not exclusive of or determined by race. It is not an ethnic or racial slur in its true definition.

  • Well, I won't have any problem not spending my money there, since I think StarBucks coffee sucks anyway, about the only coffee worse than this is RaceTrack, but at least at the gas station, it's under $1.

    • BTW, why would I want to have a serious discussion about any topic with someone whose biggest accomplishment is being able to make a cup of coffee? It's not like they're bright or anything.

      • And you "discussion" will be with someone who spends their paycheck on poking holes in their head and other body parts and getting tattoos. Some of the people Starbucks hire would not be able to get a real job, and no I don't consider Starbucks coffee makers to be a real job.

        • In my area, most of the barristas are guys. And they are pierced, tatted, and shavevwithin an inch of their lives!

          • I have two friends that work as barristas at StarStrucks, and they are both lovely ladies, both working their way through school. One is going to cosmetology school, wants to be a makeup artist, I'm not sure what the other one is studying. But they are both very bright, articulate young ladies.

            I've done photo shoots with both of them, trying to help them along with modeling careers on the side. Now, the people they work with, I don't know how bright they are. I never go in there.

          • Last time I was in Stockton it was a building under the Highway 4 extension on Lafayette Street. Lovely area.

      • I wonder how many baristas are women's studies majors or holders of other useless degrees. It will take a lot of lattes to pay off that debt load.

    • Since I don't drink coffee, RaceTrack coffee isn't an issue for me. I bought one of their 64 oz soda mugs for $7, it comes with the first fill free, and 5 coupons for free refills. After that, it's 99 cents plus tax for a refill. Best deal in town.

  • A lot of folks who drink starbucks also bitch about big oil profits, you can get 42 10 cup pots of coffee from a 3 lb. can of Folgers ( 420 cups ) for the same amount of one cup of starbucks

    • That goes for any restaurant food. I pay about $2.00 for a grande black coffee. I don't eat their food but I really like their coffee. Something happened at Dunkin Donuts. Their coffee really sucks, imo. It didn't used to.
