Stephen Hawking worried about yet another doomsday scenario. First he warned that aliens might destroy us, then it was artificial intelligence that would get us, and now he says the God particle discovered at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (which he was certain didn’t exist) could create a “bubble of the true vacuum expanding at the speed of light” which destroys the whole universe. So get out there and live every day like it’s your last, IHTM readers, because you won’t even see the killer bubble coming.

I've never understood why they give this wheelchair-bound "professor" so much credence. In this liberal, handwringing, diversity-riddled world, could it be that it is merely because he is disabled? He may be a "nice guy" underneath, but he still appears to be just as strange as the other loonies.

For a guy who's supposed to be a great genius, he's been wrong remarkably often. His bet that no Higgs boson would be found at CERN is just the latest example. I don't remember all the things he's been wrong about, but some of the conclusions for which he is most famous are among the examples: small black holes (which featured in a number of science fiction novels after he postulated them) and time running backwards if the universe stops expanding, are two of them. Both of those notions were proven impossible mathematically.
The idea that the universe has no beginning, which is another Hawking conclusion I believe has been rejected by the scientific community, led him to postulate that there is no God because if the universe has no beginning then God would never have a chance to create it.
That... makes NO sense... This guy is an idiot. If he could walk nobody would know who he was nor cared.
Time running backwards if the universe stops expanding is not only mathematically impossible, it's logically impossible.
I wish scientists would allow their sense of common sense to oversee their work. It would prevent a lot of silly conclusions like Global Warming theory.

Three quarters of the way through the article it mentions that for a particle accelerator to create enough energy it would have be larger than Earth. Like global warming, it's a scenario being blown way out of proportion. Progressives are using the global warming scare to control energy, money, and people. In the process they are destroying American productivity.
Well, gee, now that I think about it, maybe "bubble of the true vacuum" is code for Obama's brain. Maybe Hawking isn't as whacky as I thought.
