Get rid of the Dept. of Education. They protect the NEA, nothing lese. The kids don't pay dues, so they don't matter.

The average Chicago teacher's salary is $71,000 annually. For essentially 1/2 day's work. Not counting benefits.
I wonder how many of the parents that the teachers CLAIM are supporting them, are aware of this? Then again, they are mostly graduates of these dreadful schools, so they probably have no idea how that relates to the normal median income. At those salaries Chicago could afford (and should have) the very best teachers in the country. Or, at least teachers who can spell.
The sad part is these asshats make it very difficult for the teachers who are TRYING to do a decent job. THey dumb down the teachers as well. No creativity or brilliant ideas of teaching are allowed. Everyone must follwo the exact same curriculum, the exact same lesson plean. I don't know why they even WRITE lesson plans, since they are essentiall to ld what and how they teach. I don't know about Chicago, but our teachers generall put in a full day wit the kids, then have after school availability for the students, and spend several hours a day outside of school preparing lessons attending meeting and grading papers. When the kids are off, generally the teachers are not (teacher WORK day means exactly that.) These greedy asses need to shut the hell up and let the REAL teachers teach!
$71k for a part time job? Plus, it is common for teachers to have a summer job, or business like landscaping for the summer when they aren't getting a regular check.

Only 15% of Chicago fourth graders can read at a fourth grade level. The graduation rate for Chicago high school students is 56%. Yet the teachers demand a 16% raise, more benefits and no merit pay---they hate the idea that good teachers be paid more than bad teachers.

These are the people who are dumbing down our children. They demand more money, more benefits and more entitlements yet give nothing in return.

You expect a member of the teachers union to know how to spell? Please...that's the job of the spellers union, which is affiliated with the Teamsters. Unionized teachers don't have to know how to do anything.
Spelling isn't in the job description unless you're an English teacher. That guy is probably a gym teacher.
Unfortunately, I am a Teamster. Trust me, you're giving them way too much credit.
