  • he's a cheerleader, not a leader. this works when you've become a celebrity CEO (no pun on his actual TV job)... but all these "celebrity" statuses we give to leaders is a huge problem to begin with.

    since Kennedy, it's been one cult of personality after another. maybe it's gotten worse since the printing press was the only method of mass communication (and manipulation) and from the 60's we've moved more into celebritism (if that's a word) or cultism... because of TV and radio gaining more and more users in the modern era. (luckily, it was free once you bought the equipment, which was the expensive part... ever notice how nowadays, the equipment is cheap, but the "broadcast" instead is expensive, and of course, on-going in a monthly billing cycle....?)

    now that we've got this live-global-community-open-mic bullshit going on via the digital internet age, as freeing as that may be on all legitimate human rights aspects, it's actually morphed (and quite possibly due to human nature, no other special reason) into a cacophony not seen since the Tower of Babel.

    outside of that, i do believe that global business dealers actually do know more intimately what is going on in different parts of the world. they are useful as ambassadors (not exclusively in that official capacity, but in general) and therefore, national leaders - esp those who are mere bureaucrats - ought to get from them some input to consider. (edit, my grammar f'd this logic up at the end... fixed, now.)

      • JFK wasn't the first huge celebrity politician, that would have been FDR, I remember my grandparents beaming about what a wonderful president he was, but then, at that time, the press wasn't prone to talk too much about the bad stuff he was doing. Maybe they were unaware about his shredding of the Constitution, or maybe they were, like the press of today, complicit in the damage. Either way, the people were drowned in the Kool Aid of FDR. Kennedy was loved because of his good looks and his religion. Today, he would have never been elected if he made his Catholicism known. If he were to claim to be a Muslim, he would win in a landslide. Regardless, as you state, this cult of personality surrounding our politicians, I refuse to call them leaders unless they actually lead, is nothing more than making sure the LoFo voters, and the fans if Entertainment Tonight and the E! network, keep voting for the "celebriticians" that they and the Dem party push.

            My Grandfather Lyon was a Govt. CPA, A Christian. A teacher in a one-room school (along with my Grandmother Edna) and he, detested, i almost wrote hated, fdr for what fdr did to the nation.

    First, he's a dictator. Works fine in business. But if you think Obmana is throwing around executive orders like a frisbee on the beach, wait til this dude gets in the WH. Sure, his executive orders would have a higher approval percentage from most of us here on IHTM site, but we have to stand on principle. I'm not so sure he will.

    Second, I no longer like the idea of really rich people going into office. I never was a fan, but after Jon "Bondboy" Corzine in NJ, I really got disabused of that idea. Everyone loves to parrot the line "he's independent, not subject to special interests".

    Say what? He is his own damn special interest. And every time I hear him talk about China and foreign trade, I cringe. He would create a disaster in that field, which would most likely result in what is euphemistically called "protecting American jobs". Which in reality is another form of the gov forcibly transferring our money from where we want to spend it (read: less expensive products), to favored interests who are not able to compete in a free market, therefore they need gov force to continue making money.

  • I like some of his ideas, but the whole administration would turn into a reality show, Instead of Celebrity Apprentice we would have Treasury Secretary Apprentice, Secretary of State Apprentice, Supreme Court Apprentice....and it would still be on NBC.....
