The DOW passed 13,000 ! YAY! or maybe not… “…it is entirely due to the nearly $7 trillion pumped by global central banks into the world stock markets just in the past 4 years.” Funny money = funny stocks. No one is laughing.

Nothing like 6 dollars a gallon for gasoline, and even more for diesel to send us back under that number.
I just heard reported that a station in Florida is charging $5.89/gal right now!
I heard that too Rose.

Wow.. I paid 2.86 at Costco just a few days ago (Denver)
Our prices are running around $3.60/ gal give or takea few cents.
The dow could potentially end up below 10,000 after Greece defaults on its $14 billion interest payment in March. I know they supposedly worked out a 'bailout', but in reality all they did is increase the total debt. I predict the dow will be no higher than 9,000 by the end of the year. This fake war the globalists are trying to create will not help either.
Feck stocks, feck gold, time to invest in lead.
I wouldn't say no one is laughing, just the people that are paying attention aren't laughing.
Remember all that Irrational Exuberance the LameStreamCommunistLeftistMedia told us about under Bush?
I have not heard that term to describe this market....
$7 TRILLION and we're only at 13k? You pick, is this from vast fraud and corruption or are we actually in a depression and don't know it? If it's the first one, I want a piece of the action. If the second, never mind.
I've been saying this is a depression all along. It may sound better to call it a recession, but it is much more than that. It took WWII topull us out of the last depression. Now I am hearing calls for America to step in in Syria. WWIII cranking up? Maybe that's what the 12/21/2012 predictions are all about.
I have been saying we are in a depression since September 2008as well, but I must agree with BOA that it wasn't WWII that got us out of the Great depression. Rather it was the reversal of New Deal policies that coincided with WWII.
We are in a depression. If you calculate unemployment the way it was calculated prior to even 1994, we are at 22% unemployment as I type this. In the first depression, we were at 25%. Before Wickard v Filburn (look it up), the commerce clause was applied very strictly. After it, now you have Obamacare, the Patriot Act, TSA, DHS....tell me when to stop! Under Fedcoat law, you cannot have a backyard garden and grow your own food. Under Fedcoat law, you can be arrested by the US Military (70% of them will not do it) and thrown into jail indefinitely without charges, without habeas corpus, without due process, without access to legal representation and literally for the rest of your life. Wake up sheep. GOP / Dems both suck!!
You're right about Wickard v Filburn and Obamacare. Much has been written about the genesis of Obamacare being that Roosevelt era decision. if the mandate holds up I guarantee the justice who writes the majority opinion will cite that case.

Good article.. I didn't realize that precedent boiled back so cleanly to one ruling. Always pictured some gradual evolution of the clause's application
I read recently that some economists believe WWII really did NOT end the depression but that it ended due to FDR's death. In other words, the policies of FDR were what was keeping the economy down - government mandates, high taxes, etc (sound familiar?) and these policies would've likely continued after WWII if he had survived. But once he died, Congress balked at continuing the New Deal and that took the lid off the capitalist pot, so to speak.
Here's one post about it: http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2010/04/confirmed-roosevelt-ended-the-great-depression-when-he-died/
I tend to agree with this. It makes much more sense than the idea that war solves a financial crisis. Iraq should be all the proof we need for that. If war resolved a financial crisis, then we would never have gone into this recession /depression.
I dunno.. Iraq only involved mobilization of volunteers.. Most people contributed nothing to that effort. Talk about owing so much to so few..
I can't imagine what it'd be like to see victory gardens everywhere, and massive drives to collect up metals and rubber, and ladies giving up their nylons, etc.. WW2 marshaled population in ways we would hardly recognize
We pulled together nicely after 9/11 too bad that only lasted a short time but it showed that we can come together under difficult circumstances.
Friedman said the same thing.
Thanks bonfire! A great citation.
And, just as weather is not climate, stock prices are not the economy.
