  • Next time, let's put all 17 candidates on a paintball grid--whichever five have the most hits to other candidates are our winners going forward; everyone else has to drop out. Extra points for "center mass" and "double taps"

  • Here is an issue I haven't seen discussed very much anywhere: Fox News' method for choosing which candidates were in the main debate. The method was mathematically flawed, so the criteria used to select the ten was completely arbitrary. I found this article at NPR and was struck by the level of mathematical ignorance on display:

    In the linked article, NPR mentions "scientists" being up in arms in the fourth paragraph and cites a "neuroscientist and founder of the Princeton Election Consortium" in the sixth paragraph, so apparently the writer solicited expert advice. Yet nobody -- not one of the "experts" contacted -- made the obvious observation that statistically, mathematically, YOU CANNOT AVERAGE POLL RESULTS. Sheesh, shit like this drives me bonkers. It's like nobody in American has brain cells anymore. This isn't high level math for God's sake, it's freshman-level shit. You cannot average averages and poll results are basically a calculated average. HELLO FOX, YOU CANNOT AVERAGE AVERAGES! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW THAT?

    Let me give you an example: Joe and Sam pick cherries as a team. Joe picks seven bushels an hour for eight hours while Sam craps out after an hour and only picked one bushel. Joe's average is seven bushels per hour and Sam's average is one bushel per hour. Fox News would then say the average for the team is 8 divided by 2 or four bushels per hour. But mathematically, you can't average averages and four bushels per hour is a meaningless number that does not explain how the "team" of Joe and Sam managed to pick 57 bushels of cherries in eight hours... because 4 bushels per hour would only have produced 32 bushels, capiche?

    So I guess what I'm saying is everybody should have been in the main event. It's not Fox News' job to pick winners and losers before the campaign has even started, and their method for doing so was pure stupidity.

    • The only reason I like the result is that I don't think Carly would have gotten as much attention in the later debate. This way, she made a splash, and was heard from much more than she would have been in the festival of "Pay attention to me".

    • Rinse-his-Penis and the RNC had something to do with it, they wanted their favorite RINO's on the stage and Faux News accommodated them.

  • Agree with many others here that Fiorina sounds good as a politician but I'm still having trouble reconciling that with the fact that she failed as a businesswoman. In the main event, I still love Cruz, Walker didn't hurt himself, and Bush flopped -- three for three on the good side as far as I'm concerned. I wish Jindal and Fiorina were in the main event instead of Christie and Kasich -- can't those two see they have no chance in hell and are just muddying the waters?

    • From Wikipedia; After resigning from HP, Fiorina served on the boards of several organizations and as an advisor to Republican John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. She won a three-way race for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate from California in 2010, but lost the general election to incumbent Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer.

      Not a good resume.

    • I don't see she failed as a business woman. HP was a frigging mess when she got it and she was fought tooth and nail over about everything she did, not to mention the influence of the Hewlett and Packard families who from what I see, had it in for her, too. The minute she laid off employees to cut expenses she was turned into a pariah by the employees. HP is still a frigging mess. I won't buy their laptops anymore and I'm leaning to not buying their printers after the one I have croaks, due to problems.

      • I have a new HP that won't work right, too. Hate the damn thing. Meanwhile, I have an ancient HP PSC 2110 for which Microsoft doesn't even have a print driver anymore and it still works like a champ.

  • I thought Cruz, Rubio, Carson and Walker did well, The Ohio Governor was too warm and fuzzy and into that group hug shit, Kristie went after Rand Paul like a pit bull and Trump did What I thought, let his ego do the talking. I still want trump to stir up shit for a while then go away. And Ben Carson had the funniest damn closing statement which his joke about removing half a brain and Washington D.C....

    Rand Paul did not impress me at all, Although Huckabee did say some great things about the Military..Bush Flip Flopped on all his previous beliefs like a carp outta water, I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

    • In no particular order:

      Did not suck: Cruz, Rubio, Walker.
      Neutral: Huckabee, Carson, Christie, Carson, Paul.
      Sucked: Trump, Bush, Kasich, Perry.

      Winner tonight's debates: Fiorina

      • Missed the main event, but caught the earlier/smaller debate and Fiorina was sharp as a tack in that one as well. She's almost a female version of Trump - especially when it comes to crushing lib. pundits who try to attack her reign at HP. I've seen her do it several times now and it never gets boring watching Carly turn the shredder on.

        • From what I hear the more people that listen to her talk, the more they like what she has to say. There is another thread here that shows how the Democraps already had an attack on Carly tonight. She must have them worried..

          • Oh..some poor pooky disagreed with all of us but couldn't provide any thing in the way of logic besides a thumbs down....Must be a woman hater....

          • That would be terrible, he can't keep a thought together and can't finish a sentence...He needs to be in a home...a secure home with big guys in white coats to keep him indoors and away from the rest of us.

          • I would suggest a padded room, but I'm afraid he would choke to death while trying to eat the padding.

  • Fox News did a poor job but Carson and Cruz made the most out of what little time the moderators gave them. Trump hurt himself but he still will probably recover as he continues to tap into GOP voter anger.

        • Hey Kick, I just saw Chris Wallace and Bret whathisname on Fox trying to defend 'their' performance (for lack of a better word). See if you can find a clip, their arrogance and hubris is amazing. { I don't get that mad at a football game and yell at the TV like I just did}

          They're talking heads, not the news, what happened to "we report you decide?"

          [edit] REPORT! being the operative word. Jeeze, it's Sunday and I'm all lit up. These people...

          • And, that is the thing that really pisses me off!
            The moderators had more face time than any of the candidates!
            The report I heard was that they had 31% of the air time, which leaves the candidates with just under 7% each, basing it on even distribution, which we know didn't happen. They didn't just want to be the story, they MADE themselves the story! Megyn Kelly is whining about how Trump dissed her. Now these two are defending their performance, which seemed to me, to be nothing more than talking points from the RNC.
