“The Two State Solution for America” – a path to political sanity? Author proposes an idea many of us have at least considered. The problem we see with it is that the division is really more between urban/rural than by state. Illinois, for example, is Chicago surrounded by a red state, but because of the former’s large population, the state as a whole is blue. A better idea might be simply to have more power devolve back to the individual states – if that were possible with the current statist political class.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages.   • I appreciate I Hate the Media posting about my book and wanted to explain a little more about it. First, I believe it is an improvement on our current system of government and by itself will solve most of the political problems we have in our country today. That is, if it were accepted by the people and implemented. That's the hard part, I know, but big ideas have to start somewhere, right? I think this one is and I cannot emphasize enough its potential benefits to everybody, left and right.

    Second, the urban/rural issue mentioned above will be a moot point under my system - it will not be an important factor once each state becomes a part of its own self-governing region (there will be two - one for Democrats and one for Republicans). Each region will then govern itself DOMESTICALLY however they feel is right for them, and every citizen of the country will have the choice to live in the political region that suits them. The conflict and rage will subside and everybody will be able to be at peace. What could possibly be better than that?

    Third, yes, barring the implementation of this idea, it would be better to have the power devolve back to the states, but THIS idea is actually a much better option than even the strengthening of the Tenth Amendment. To repeat, this idea solves most of the political problems we have in the country today. The states regaining their relative power still does not do what The Two-State Solution for America can do. All I need is to have some open-minded people with enough time on their hands to read it, and I think this idea will start selling itself. That is my only problem right now. So -

    I am looking for 100 people who are interested enough in my idea to actually read the entire book and, if you like it, to write their own personal review of it. I have not pushed for endorsements from political celebrities yet, and am looking to work my way up from the grassroots. I need endorsements/praises from people like you to get this ball rolling. Then I am hoping these volunteers will promote it whenever and however they can - mention it in your comments on pages such as this, put it on your Facebook page, send your review in emails to everyone you know, add a page to your website or whatever.       The only problem with that is the Democrat run region will have only takers, no producers. So where will they get the funding to support themselves?

      • Thanks for the comment. Your statement is a broad generalization of the problem we have TODAY, but is not applicable in my system. I have addressed this issue fully in the book. Suffice it to say that there are MANY safeguards that prevent the Democrats from going too far in their desire for socialism. Not only that, but they will have to become responsible for their actions within their region, because they will not have the productive people to loot. They will be able to live how they want, but only to a point as they will have to be fiscally responible. If they aren't, they would lose people, businesses and states! Why? Because the people in their region will be able to leave and go to a better-run place. Right now we're all stuck with Obama and what the Democrats are doing. In my system you'd be able to choose between two ideological systems. Sweet!

        This system, as I have designed it, has so many benefits for everyone I cannot begin to explain. I believe I have addressed every possible objection such as yours in the book. If it interests you, Poppajoe49, and you'd be willing to read it through, I'd be happy to send you a copy. You would only promote it if you liked it and agreed it is viable (ie, if I resolved all your skepticism about it). If you can come up with an objection I haven't addressed in the book I would love to hear it - I think I've heard them all, but there's always room for creativity!

        • Ok Thomas, you have intrigued me. If you can let me know how to contact you, I would be willing to take up your challenge.
          I would have to insist on one caveat though. When I finish the book, I would want to pass it along to sidekick for his appraisal, and then on to DefHarryMelon, as we 3 are acquainted and live in the same metro area. This would give you 3 unique and diverse reviews.

          • Great! I've got takers! I'll go you one better - I'll send each of you a signed copy so you can all get right on it! And if you are anywhere near Western North Carolina, I'll join your book club, too, for the beer AND fellowship.

            So far I've had some family and friends read it, and a few others who have bought the book through my website. I won't try to influence you with what they think of it, but I'm realizing that in order to get noticed out there in the larger world, I'm going to have to show some support for my idea. And I personally need some feedback from objective, third-party interests too - I think it's a great idea and well presented, but until I get some validation on it, it remains a self-assessment.

I'm dyslexic so it takes me a lot longer to read, break down and digest such material. So depending on how quickly you want feed back, I might not be the best candidate to suit your needs. (unless, of course, you are tryig to test how easy it is for the "reading comprehensionally challenged" to understand your book) It's easy for me to get things kinda twisted up in my noggin, but still I think I hold my own around here, judging from other posters responses to me.

          • Exactly, the "red" side would wall itself off, then the "blue staters" would simply jump the wall to flee their collapsed system but it is not like their behavior is going to change. They will, as drb, says restart the process. But that time get it "right". Just like Obamacare will lower your health insurance premiums.

  • Easy. Repeal the 17 amendment to the constitution which essentially took states rights and power from the states. State legislatures previously elected the senators but the 17th amendment changed that to have the Senators elected by the populace, making the Senate just like the House. If this was the case now, majority in Senate would now be republicans and we would not have this disfunctional government.

  • I wonder what it is about people living on top of each other which makes them vote blue, while people with a little space vote red? Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky's two biggest cities, went big for Obama, but there are enough people in the rest of the state to basically give McCain and Romney 20 point victories.

    • I've often wondered. Do people become morons by living packed like sardines into cities? Or does the city life attract morons?

      • Good question. Many years ago there was a study that in NYC, I think it was 7 out of 10 that had SOME form of mental disease or issue. That is crazy pardon my pun.

        The question remains, did the city make then crazy or because they are crazy they migrated to the city. You have to imagine that back in the day and still today in many cases, Doctors actually advise rest outside of cities for people who were sick physically or mentally... so I guess there is something to the fact that cities can induce health problems.

        • LOOK at the people in the Northeast. Seriously. They have speech impediments, they have been going to psychiatrists at $100-150 an hour for DECADES and they are nervous wrecks. Not a one can stay calm in a crisis and the anticipate disastrous events before ANY evidence of said event is found. They are all nuts, I tell you!

  • I think this is a GREAT idea, if and ONLY if the RED States declare War on the Blue states within 24 hours of the separation! Why war? We want our country back and want to kick the squatters off our land.

  • Sometimes I do think it would be best to split in two, but once established we would have to close our borders and have strict immigration laws.

    • The red states WOULD. The blue states would suffer the consequences of having open borders. It would be nice to show the contrast.

      • Socialists need capitalists to steal from. Blue states would eventually suffer from civil unrest due to a lack of money for social welfare programs because of massive unemployment caused when all of the buisinesses & the rich people who owned them, left. Not a new story, but those who promote socilaism today just think that right people have not been in charge yet, & they are the right people. But it will work this time.

  • The last election opened my eyes a great deal when I saw (districts) red red red red red red red red blue blue red red red red red blue... and that WHOLE state went Obama I was like wth?! It was crazy to me. I understand it... but it is crazy to me. I don't like it when a minority has rule and control over a majority for good or bad I just don't like it... It seems off and unequal.

    • That is why each district should have it's own vote.
      One vote per district, based on how the individual votes tally, and then that would determine the national result.
      This would cancel out the concentration of power in the welfare centers.

  • The Liberals grow up in one of their "Blue States" and promptly tax and regulate manufacturing out of the state. Then they spread to another state, thus by infecting it with the same bullshit they then claim they moved away from.
    More proof that Liberalism is truly a mental disorder.

  • I see many, many problems if this ever happened.

    We all know the blue states would lose revenue with the mad exodus from those states. However, those blue states would raise taxes on everything to ensure their state's revenue wouldn't drop to zero.

    With that being said, places like California with its large shipping ports, would levy a "cargo tax" for anything headed out of state, especially if its a red state. Blue states like New Mexico would levy a "transport" tax on anything coming in from or leaving to Texas or Arizona. If one already exists, they'd just add another level of tax. They might even levy a "Not produced in our state" tax.

    Nothing but problems from this.

    • Actually, if they want to pull that tax plan off, it would offer an opportunity to other coastal states to open their own ports.
      Alaska could take in the cargo for the red states, and transport it across Canada by rail to Idaho, and ship it throughout the red states from there.
      Georgia and the Carolinas could open their own ports, Florida already has ports.

    • not really, cuz then we just wouldn't do business with the blue states. No law that says we must provide goods and services to blue states...California would be totally screwed cuz if I'm not mistaken they do not have enough fresh water. Fresh water is piped in from red states, I believe.

      • Don't get your point, who care's if Cali is screwed? We provide all our own water, that's a point of contention between North and southern California. The fed control of our water is also a huge problem.

        • I don't care if Cali gets screwed. Tincan was taking about how the blues states would tax us to allow us to export things to them. He said that was a "problem". I was just saying it would be a problem for them, not us. We just wouldn't do it and blue states like Cali would suffer from their own policies.

          • California has plenty of fresh water, if we cut off Los Angeles and San Francisco. Our biggest water problem is the federal government not allowing our farmers in the Central Valley to farm. No farms, no food, no jobs, no,.....wait. Soon they'll have a high-speed rail to nowhere coming through. That'll fix everything.

          • I just came up with a good use for the high speed rail in Cali. Use it to send the illegals to Mexico!

          • By the time they get done screwing around and finish it California will be annexed and renamed Northern Mexico.

    • I think it would be one sided as all the oil and Nat. Gas income is in the red states as is all the manufacturing base as are those who know how to manufacture. I think we could get New Mexico on our side if not we take New Mexico, remember we have God and our guns. I like this idea a lot. Right now I am a conservative stuck in kali and would walk if I had to to a Free Red State. I'm ready, secede now Red States!!

  • With those in the " Blue states " primarily dependent on those that work " Red States " to meet their primary living needs , but unwilling to make that happen for themselves , the cry out to those that legally steal from those that have , could only lead to civil war .

    Only the other hand , to think that those , in power , that have amassed an enormous amount of unconstitutional power , would ever let any of the slaves leave the plantation , is asking alot of rational thinking people .

    • "Civil War" But who would fight for the Blues?? For the few that would, just lob a few pounds of crack behind their lines, wait 30 minutes and then just walk in and round em up. The problem then is, what do you do with them, because they will all be worthless f*cks. (We should just shoot em and be done with it, but we are too civilized for that.) And of course, the snooty elites and media assholes won't be around to get their hands dirty, besides, guns would make them wet their panties.

      • Navyvet2, that would actually accomplish a twofold purpose.
        It would end the civil war, but it would also give us the chance to actually enforce the no guns agenda that the blue states want, because we could confiscate the guns from the crackheads, and "redistribute" them to the rest of us in the red states!
