The US has surpassed Saudi Arabia in oil production. “Despite Obama shutting down production in the Gulf. Despite the EPA. Despite NY fiddle-farting around with permits for fracking.” Remember in 2008 when Pelosi said “Drill Baby, Drill” was a waste of time because it would take decades for that oil to come online or something? The oil got here before her stinkin’ “wind power”.

Never underestimate a self-selected society that has no tradition of systemic totalitarianism. This is a huge development and provides a glimmer of hope that we can overcome the economic stagnation sooner rather than later.
As long as the current system is in place, all extra wealth will go toward the parasite classes, who would be growing even faster than they already do, not toward the increasingly fewer workers/producers.

We've had a welfare state since 1933. I get your point and with this clown in the WH things won't likely improve but I do believe the pendulum will swing as a result of his last term and the focus on (illegal) immigration and guns rather than what really matters including national security.
Welfare in 1933 is nowhere comparable to what it is today, it is like comparing a finger cut with with an amputation involving a meat-grinder.
Heck even welfare in 2008 was significantly below the current level despite the falling living standards.

If you look at FDR's policies including the New Deal, NRA, and the AAA including the crony capitalism boondoggle, TVA (the green energy scam of its day), you will see that the cost of "relief" and non-free market government intervention prolonged the Depression. I'm not going to look up the raw data but I would not be surprised to see that as a percentage of GDP we are an a par with the 1930s in welfare spending and the well-off - job creators- are still under taxed (thank God) compared to 75 years ago...difference is that many men, during the Depression, had to actually to show up at some sort of busy work type thing to get their benefits. The similarities between FDR and Obama and their policies are striking.
True but at least there was some slight growth instead of a continuous recession, not something Obama can boast without lying even more than usual.
Also, Obama is not the first to have bypassed FDR.
For all the talks about the economy playing such a role in his election, Bill Clinton and his policies wouldn´t have done better if he had inherited a similar mess.
Bush junior era also, if you take even official inflation stats into account, fall of living standards didn´t begin with the 2008 crash.
Fastest way for them to loose is to run out of people´s money sooner rather than later.
