This might explain the 2008 presidential election. A shocking new study in the weekly science journal Nature suggests the human species is deteriorating genetically, becoming less fit, less social, and less intelligent every year… so maybe “Obama/Biden” should be spelled, “Q.E.D.”

how is this study shocking? medical advances keep people alive through breeding age, and they pass on genetic weaknesses. technological advances allow/encourage people to sit on their arses and avoid face to face contact. and, the stupid/lazy have many more offspring than the intelligent/responsible.
Okay, so you're not shocked. But the notion that the human race is headed back down the evolutionary ladder is certainly grounds for worry, don't you think?
And by the way, it's not "people" who are passing on genetic weaknesses. It's MEN. Women are born with their eggs, so they're all as good or bad as they're going to get. Men make sperm every day and that's where the mutations start getting into the gene pool, when old men with deteriorating sperm chromosomes have children with young women. Imagine a future world populated with millions of Larry Kings and Donald Trumps.

Future tech should address some genetic grievances.. gene replacement via retro-virus should be viable in markets within decades
no, when people with genetic predilections toward disease live long enough to reproduce with the help of modern medicine (when, according to nature, they would have died/been to sickly to reproduce), have children, they pass on the trait to their children. mutations are a different story.
Mutations may be a different story, but that's the story which provides the whole point of the article. Sperm are mutating, eggs are not, men are living long enough to have young wives, etc.
I'm sure there's a more reasonable explanation for this phenomena that will place the blame squarely where it belongs: climate change, Bush and/or Romney and the lack of government sperm subsidy programs for Democrat politicians, their relatives and cronies and any public service union who members contribute lotsa money to them.
