• If you only count Texas, ignore the 100,000,000 long term unemployed, he should be encouraged, looking at all the other states, not so much.

• There were some interesting comments about how the article was written. I am sure that if you removed the North Dakota oil jobs from the count as well there would be an even bigger gap.

  • I doubt it. North Dakota employment has skyrocketed but the absolute numbers are too low to overshadow the nation as a whole. Population of ND=less than 800,000. Population of Texas=27 million. No matter how good employment is in North Dakota, the absolute number of jobs is a whisker on a gnat's butt compared to the nation as a whole.

• And to think, we were just a couple of executive orders away from not getting any of those TX jobs, either. That clown is no fan of oil in general or fracking in particular. And then brags about the unemployment rate?

  • Nice thing is a lot of those jobs are tech based. Austin is turning into the new Silicon Valley, DFW is a transport hub and constantly getting new companies moving there, and Houston is still an energy powerhouse. There's plenty of energy extraction and it brings in tons of money, but it's the tech and manufacturing plants that bring in the jobs.

    • Yea, Texas was a huge tech mecca in the early 80's too, but when Datapoint (formerly CTC) went belly up, they lost much of that.
      In 1985, they were divesting themselves of tons of talent, many of who tried to do other tech startups, but they didn't make much of a dent.
      I worked for a company started by Royal Elmore, who was a former Datapoint exec, and a couple of their former engineers, but they were shooting for something that they weren't capable of.
      The lead engineer, Alan Camerik Heller, ended up as the CEO of a company that manufactures temperature tracking equipment in the food distribution chain. The other engineer kind of faded into obscurity, although Flash might have heard of him, he is in the photography business in San Antonio, but I'm not even sure of that.
      My point is, that the tech sector is fickle, and can crash and burn as fast as it bloomed.

• But you're leaving out the new jobs being created right now in the government printing field, which is responsible for publishing millions of pages of new Federal regulations every day.

  • And those jobs printing the funny money they are putting in circulation.

• And, they're still leaving out the count for those no longer looking for work.
