• FDR was the first president to screw around with the gold supply. Nixon did sign the bill that took the US off the gold standard.

  Here are a few things Nixon did do that should not be forgotten. He served his country during WWII, he worked on diplomatic relations with both the USSR and China, he turned the Israelis lose and didn't get in their way to defend themselves.

• Yet Nixon did allow Corporate Greed to steal our gold.

  • No Criwley, he didn't, a Democrat Congress did and the media put the blame on him because he signed some landmark legislation. Oh who knew, we won't know what's inside until we pass the bill...ring a bell?

• We have somehow tolerated the lies for 40 years, knowing the Government who proclaimed war on drugs was in fact running the drugs and laundering the money on Wall Street. Now as we are actually witnessing our liberties being taken away, by a Gestapo mentality of a socialist / Marxist government, we see the veneer of stated truths evaporate faster than Barry Frank’s robes at a bath house. Fox news wire taps, A&P, Benghazi (the murder of four American’s-allowed by the sock puppet of a president) “too big to fail” TARP monies to unions and friends,
  green business, the never ending cry for “carbon tax”, targeting conservative groups (Tea Party) Fast and Furious, the “Dream act” awarding those who break our laws with monthly welfare checks. A congress that is so corrupt that it dare now speak of impeachment as it would allow scrutiny of themselves and without doubt a prison term that would follow. Public service my aching butt, gouging the taxpayer, $15,000 a month minimum for one term in the senate and with a single digit approval rating, pass pay rises and perks that few could ever hope for. Our entire government is broken! The crooks are now “investigating” the crooks? Certainly truth and justice will follow.

    That gets at the root of the problem. It is our collective acceptance of the corruption and lies- perhaps because we've become so desensitized to the idea of corrupt politicians that we just accept it as a given and remain unfazed without cues from the subject of the cultural addiction- television.

    I've heard and read comparisons of the current series of scandals with Watergate and there's a very key difference: the news media treatment of the matter. A major reason that the Watergate scandal blew up the way it did was because mainstream media carried it at or near the top of the news and in the headlines every single day for the better part of two years. The public attention was held- and with the relative absence of other info-tainment distractions we had little real choice in the consumption of our news, the bill of fare was scandal, scandal, and scandal with a side order of cover-up.

    The nature of news media and press has very much changed over the intervening decades with political narrative and buzz-wording playing a major role in creating an association with news stories and political agendas- calling incidents involving firearms as "gun violence" for instance... which instantly knits a given story into the fabric of gun control which our leaders seem hell bent on instituting. A better case might be the style of reporting while the Benghazi attacks with the video of angry crowds being reported as "the reaction to the video".

    In any case the media is being used to keep a lid on any reaction to the many crises at hand. I have serious doubts that justice is going to be properly served with the rampant corruption because there's not going to be any demand that it happens. Not only are the crook investigating the crooks but the crooks are also reporting on the crooks.
