Tim Cook Comes Out of the iCloset: We’ve a strong belief in what Jefferson called the “natural aristocracy”. In this situation that can, and does, mean that we’ve no real interest in what Cook does in his private time and so long as he doesn’t stray too far from Job’s vision we will likely continue to be a fan of the products he is responsible for. However one thing within his statement did strike us as odd.
Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day.
We think this statement is lacking in sophistication. The depth of Cooks empathy is severely limited as -unlike African Americans under Jim Crow- he could keep this part of his identity secret and -unlike the Christians under Nero- he kept that identity secret until it became a benefit to him professionally.

Who cares? This is a publicity stunt by him. It was a known fact for decades he was gay.

Deeper than what?
Has anyone quantified "understanding"? Does he know how much understanding anyone has about anyone else?
What does he mean by "deeper"? Deeper than he had before? He has a deeper understanding than when he wasn't gay? Or deeper than when he didn't know he was gay, meaning when he was a kid? I think it would be safe to say that every single one of us has a deeper understanding of everything and everyone now as compared to when we were kids. I understand serial killers much better now than when I was 7. Does that mean I have much understanding of them now? Almost none. But what I have is much deeper now than then.
Or deeper than someone who is not part of a minority? Well the way I figure, when you take out blacks, Latinos, Jews, gays, Asians, native Americans, Pacific islanders, Appalachians, women, who did I miss? - we don't even need to go to Italians, Irish, Jesuits, etc. - pretty much everyone is part of a minority.
Is it the money/power thing? Well, gays have a higher average income. So he can't possibly have a deeper understanding of what it was like being black in rural Mississippi in the early 20th century

Good points. I really got the feeling that he wanted to get the street cred from being oppressed without any of the hassle of having been oppressed. I think it is a real disservice to those that faced real diificulties -including gays that came at a time when it wasn't a resume enhancer.
In essence he is not asking for equality. He is asking for special position in society. I guess he believes that Blacks were given special status in society and therefore EVERYONE else (the alphabet guild) needs to also be special or even more so. He and others like him are out of their minds stupid... but they are liberals so you know it is not like we should be surprised.

I don't care if the guy is queer or not but I do predict Apple going down. Right now Apple is costing on Jobs's momentum. Every time that Apple did not have Jobs it went into the tank. My guess is that things are not going so well under this guy and he needed a distraction/excuse.
Why do I get a funny feeling that he decided to come out just as he was being considered for replacement?
It would be a convenient and fortuitous decision for him, since to terminate him now, would look like anti gay sentiment from Apple, and considering their core customer base are brain dead leftists, it would be a bad move on the company's part.
So wait six months when the glee of it dissipates and they can get rid of him... coming out will still be for nothing.
I agree. Apple is definitely coasting on the Job's momentum. And when that runs out they very well may get trounced. I really like they're mobile products, they are simple, intuitive and fit all of my needs. Their computers, IMHO, are overpriced (way overpriced) and underpowered.

Had he never said anything I wouldn't know who he was unless I was interested in Apple people. Which I am not. All in all this is for "marriage equality" it is not about being part of a minority and it is not about keeping it real and being down with the cause. It is about forcing others by using false empathy to ACCEPT not just tolerate his lifestyle AND forcing participation by the entire community/country in his lifestyle and behaviors. He is using the pulpit of his position knowing that there are many Apple product fans, to impose his behavior... behavior on others.
He can be as gay as he wanted and not involve me nor anyone else in his behavior by not talking about it.
