To Remain Infallible, the Pope Should Listen to God not Piketty

To Remain Infallible, the Pope Should Listen to God not Piketty: Once again the Pope is affirming his bias against a system of haves and have mores for the older type in which only men like him have and the rest of us must try and subsist off what meager crumbs fall from their golden tables and diamond chalices. All the same we don’t fault this mere mortal for his economic ignorance. But we would prefer it if that same economic ignorance didn’t lead him to so often blame us.

  • Maybe the Pope should go back and read the "Ten Commandments", and obummer should go back and read the "Constitution".

I seem to remember reading one about "Thou shall not steal".

    • It's all in your definition of the word "steal." I do not support wholesale redistribution of wealth. HOWEVER. . . . I do believe it I'd naturally contingent up o n those with enormous we as both to help care for the vastly poor, whether it's endowing schools, providing food, job training, . Or medical care. It would be an appropriate way to show gratitude for all the have been blessed with. But voluntary giving is way different than taking everything, throwing it a can and giving all the money equally. That discourages. The pride of receiving a wage for a job well done, it increases feelings of depression and worthlessness and takes away hope. THAT IS WHAT THE SOCIALIST REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE!

        • Compare to the people . During the Great Depression. Not many wanted charity. They wanted jobs so the could earn their way. That'$s why I believe able bodied welfare recipients should work to off set the cost of welfare. It would provide the proverbial hand up, as opposed to just a handout. The could develop a resume, learn a skill, and take pride in what they have accomplished.

          • I think people who don't want to participate in our economy, as something other than an anchor, should be housed at welfare farms. No cash benefits. You get a hut, basic food, basic medical care, and you work in the fields. Your kids go to school, and behave. Any drugs found in your possession gets you tossed in the slammer. You want to live out of MY pocket, you gotta live by MY rules.

  • apparently theft is the new charity
Pope Francis reaffirmed his plea on Friday for world leaders to redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor during an address before top U.N. officials and called for a global initiative to reduce the income gap
hey paisan, charity begins at home.

    • There's no reason any entity with the kind of money that the Catholic Church has should be tax exempt. Sure, money spent towards actual charitable functions should be exempt, just like mine is. But the rest of it, no.

      • apparently when you tax a city-state it's called tribute, and that will come about soon enough if not already with the Anti-Christ. imo

you might call him fenrick, or something but i got the lowdown.

  • HMMMM, very interesting biography.

Pope Francis (Latin: Franciscus; Italian: Francesco; born Jorge Mario Bergoglio
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bergoglio worked briefly as a chemical technician and nightclub bouncer before entering the seminary.

  • The Pope said "Inequality is the source of social evil." I think he's only quoting Scripture: "For the love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Tim 6:10). He's not calling for an equality of outcomes as Communism proposes which saps the work ethic from society. He's talking about radical inequality because of the greed of a few and the lack of charity of many. I don't think he's talking about the charity of the United States because we're one of the most charitable countries in the world. I'm a capitalist, but I don't believe that a few criticisms of the excesses of capitalism makes one a Communist or a Socialist.

Let me give a specific example of what I think the Pope is talking about. A few years ago, legislators in Maryland saw that a great many Wal-Mart employees in the state were on Medi-Caid. And so the question arose: Why are the all ready overburdened taxpayers of Maryland paying the medical bills of a Wal-Mart which clears about $20 billion a year in profits, 4 or 5 billion a quarter? They passed a law that if you make a certain amount of profit, you must put a certain percentage of it towards health benefits for your employees. If you don't the state will tax you for it. The bill exempted most small businesses but it did hit VERY profitable businesses. I have no problem with such legislation. I'm a capitalist but we can't worship capitalism to the point to where we say it can do no wrong and every criticism of it is immediately met with "Communism" or "Socialism".

A number of corporations have their products made in China by slave or near-slave labor. Clothing is made in Bangladesh, or Pakistan, or wherever and then sold in the United States at an enormous profit. Why can't those products be made in America by say, $8 an hour workers with a few benefits, with the businesses taking a little less profit? I'm sorry but I think such businesses are being greedheads.

Francis is only criticizing what St. John Paul II labelled "cutthroat captalism". The capitalism which wants so much profit that it runs over human beings and treats them as objects to be used and discarded. George W. Bush talked about "compassionate conservatism". He wanted conservative market principles but wanted to speak out when the desire for profits led to poor treatment for workers. I agreed with him, though he was mocked for those words.

I haven't given anyone thumbs down here, though I know I may be disagreed with.

  • It seems that the Pope has gone to the King Barky School of Economic Equality.
The idea of "Give me all the money and I will fairly distribute it among the masses" only works where nobody has anything. If there is nothing to redistribute, then nobody can complain. However, when there is great wealth to be redistributed, much of that wealth seems to mysteriously get "lost" somewhere between the collection and the distribution. Amazingly, the distributors always seem to have gotten their "fair share" before the wealth was lost! Funny how that works out, almost as funny as how they never seem to run out of their "fair share", in spite of the money being "lost".

    • This is African governments through the decades and many Latin American countries and many Asian countries. They get money from wherever, it gets lost along the way, the people are still poor and disenfranchised and then people (especially liberals) blame primarily corporations and rich people for that... :-/

      • Isn't it interesting how this Pope was raised in one of those Latin American countries, and now is espousing their Communist economic model, but with him as the overseer?

        • I am going to be real if I may...

I love all my Catholic Brothers and Sisters in Christ and so on... however... why is the Pope important?

I don't mean to be a b*tch here... but he is the Pope... so what? Why must he or any of them affect policies? I find that very disturbing.

          • One of the big problems the English Church has always had with the Bishop of Rome, aka The Pope. He is only infallible since some previous Pope declared it was so in the mid 1800s, I think. Jesus set the early church model as communistic. But TRUE communist, where every one really IS equal, and goods and property are shared equally. Unfortunately, humans are way to greedy and self centered for that to work over the long haul, so. . . .

          • As long as all things come from G-d yes all are truly equal in His eyes, but we aren't all the same. Some of us have more/different talents than others because G-d knows that we can handle it while others can't. Some of us become much more able to be comfortable with what we get no matter how small whereas others want more and if they have the talents and the right attitude and the blessing of G-d they will get more. That is Biblical through and through. However ALL people do get SOMETHING that allows them to do something, so it is up to the individual to find that something and use it to the best advantage. However, I know that in some cases, some humans are actively impeded from being the best that they can be because of the evil of others, but that is not the majority of people, not by a long shot.

I don't believe that all poverty is because some humans are greedy. I believe that some poverty is because some humans are greedy/violent/evil; MOSTLY because the humans in governments are greedy/violent/evil, but some poverty is actually because some humans do not want to ascend their situation and some other part of poverty is because some humans are unable to physically or mentally ascend their situation. In the last situation, they lack family/friends/communities and there aren't enough people around to reach out to them and it is nobody's fault it is what it is, so they fall to the government and then we get to the first situation.

If the Governmental powers that be acted the way they should act: TRULY see all of its citizens as equal, protect their citizen from domestic and international terrorists that actively engage to prevent them from living their life for the fullest, etc, etc., I believe that we will see a considerable amount of poverty eradicated.

It starts from the top. G-d gave all that He could give and more, so it is not His fault that people are not living up to their potential. Government has a place (limited as it should be) to ensure that our G-d given rights are protected but we as a society and individuals have then the responsibility to take it from there.

Sadly we don't live in that world. One day the middle man (the government) will be cut off, Jesus will take the mantle of government upon His own shoulders, He will be Governor and Provider and Source and then in His Kingdom and with His Blessings I am sure that we will use the talents, whatever they maybe, to their full and true potential and nothing will stop us from achieving the things that we want to achieve and/or the Lord wants us to achieve.

What was the Lord's Plans for Adam (and Eve)? Whatever that was, we need to get that going, but with all the crap in our lives and the sin in this world we aren't doing it. So... we will have the poor, the disenfranchised, the needy, the persecuted, the tortured, the oppressed, etc., until He comes back.

I still want to know why the Pope is all importance... Sure I respect his position but I don't think he is that important that I have to care what he has to say.
