Trayvon Martin case: Screams on 911 tape aren’t George Zimmerman’s: experts

• "Tom Owen, forensic consultant for Owen Forensic Services LLC and chair emeritus for the American Board of Recorded Evidence, told the Sentinel that there was only a 48% chance that it was Zimmerman crying for help on the tape." Sorry but that sounds nearly 50/50 to me. That is not 'overwhelming evidence" as required in a court of law.
  Zimmerman could very well walk. I am not an attorney but a very strong defense could be made for the defendant. Has anyone ever heard of "reasonable doubt"?
  If he gets off people will site these "experts" for all time. While not even bothering to read what they had to say.

  • Exactly. I don't know the facts of the case and I doubt that 99% of the others who are pontificating on it do, either. It started out as a local law enforcement issue - from what I understand, the police investigated and presented evidence to the prosecutor who made a decision based on whether he or she believed there was a provable case to be made or not - the same as what happens probably hundreds of times each week in towns and cities all across the country. Few people outside of Florida would be talking about this case AT ALL right now except for the fact that Obama, Jackson, Sharpton and their media enablers saw a chance to create a narrative and incite trouble for their own purposes. That is the key point to remember, no matter what eventually happens with regard to Zimmerman's guilt or innocence.

      The reason it went viral before big names got involved is because some dude got a bit too worked up over a black guy. I know the types who would never consider themselves racist, yet their hackles raise.. I pity them their fear

      I work with a jamaican who changed his morning bike ride route because there was a news story of a "black guy on a bike" mugging people around a park. I can't imagine even considering such a thing if there was a similar story about a white dude.

      Also, I know plenty who rely overly much on their firearms to compensate for lack of fighting skills

      Misinterpration of laws in Florida allowed all this irrational behavior to fall through a huge f-ing crack.. The story demanded review

    • Interesting, you have done your own pontification (many times I may add) though especially in your articles either about the case or about other cases where you are trying to demonstrate media bias. Since you have the ability to post articles, your pontification, as it were, has a lot more weight I would think. In all truth, no one here is pontificating (including yourself) we are just posting our point of views as human beings that we are and most of us in a civil manner as that is what the site is for: civil debate.

      You understand incorrectly. The police did not investigate, they essentially let him go that night and did not pursue the matter and the prosecutor did not follow up with the case. One of the officers wanted to investigate however he was told to drop it by the chief of police (who has now resigned) and the prosecutor as per reports. It took the parents weeks to get them to release the tapes (after weeks of asking for the tapes that the chief of police did not release) and more weeks for those in charge to actually look at the case. The true investigation in essence started a couple of weeks ago almost or over a month after the actual shooting. That is the reason for the initial outrage.

      I understand that you want to focus on the media bias and that is valid, however your understanding of the underlying point: parents looking to know what happened to their son and being denied by the officials is what is at the base. If your child died, shot down on the streets and police (and everyone else) moves on, and you know that your child really shouldn't have just died on the streets like that and want to learn more and get denied, you would then understand what Martin's parents were going through. They became desperate and went to the wrong people, instead of keeping it on the downlow and putting pressure through other means. Unfortunately, it got out of everyone's hands the moment Obama et al put in their two cents. The reason they did is because Martin is Black and Zimmerman is not Black AND because Zimmerman used "Stand Your Ground" as a defense. It was the perfect storm for liberals to pass up.

      Now what certain conservatives are doing are focusing on the media bias (valid) yet completely ignoring the quest for the truth by the parents (wherever that may lead). If my child dies at the hands of someone and no one cares to investigate and the person is free to roam the streets I want to know more. I cannot fault the parents for that. Although of course I agree the media bias is disgusting and unfortunate, I just want to make sure that Martin's parents are not forgotten, that they are experiencing real pain and they just want to know what happened and get some justice for their son.

      Now it is very possible that this whole thing pretty much damaged chances for Zimmerman to get a fair trial and Martin parents in essence have Obama et al to blame for that, but as I said this is the liberal perfect storm and Obama et al will use this until November and this is why I believe that covering the bias is valid. I just hope that more conservative will show compassion for Martin's parents. From the outside looking in, it seems that conservatives ar enot being compassionate and that is yet another rallying cry for the liberals. There has to be a way to be aware of the underlying issue (Martin's parents search for truth and justice) and balance that with compassion and determination to the exposing of bias.

      I think Bill O'Reilly has done a good job at this.

• They'll have to go to Palau to find an unbiased jury.

  • If anything it would be something for people to exploit and create riots. I hope they do not start any trials until AFTER Obama is out of office.

• So the two "experts" contradict the witnesses at the scene who said it was Zimmerman screaming. "Who you gonna believe? Me? Or your lying eyes?"

• A lot of the recent information has not lent itself to a corroboration of the Zimmerman story. However given that this information has been filtered through a media that has routinely skewered the facts (digitally manipulated photo's, a video that looked edited, a failure to report Trayvon's posing as a thug online, outing a 13 year old they believed to be a witness for Zimmerman, calling Zimmerman a "white" and so on) I don't feel comfortable abandoning belief that he might be a victim in all this. But yeah . . . on the surface it is not looking very good for him.

• Agree that it might not bode well from Mr. Zimmerman. I'm still waiting, though, for the libs to explain how a so-called gun toting vigilante is one of their core constituents: a registered Democrat of Hispanic descent.
