Trump backsliding on climate change now

Is Trump backsliding on climate change now? He’s been a vocal skeptic but now that he’s got the nomination sewn up, listen to his “energy adviser:”

“My advice would be, while I’m a skeptic as well, he is a product of political populism and political populism believes that there needs [to be] some addressing of climate change.”

Huh?

  • "He (Trump) told the Washington Post Editorial Board

'I think there’s a change in weather. ..... I am not — I know it hurts me with this room, and I know it’s probably a killer with this room — but I am not a believer. Perhaps there’s a minor effect, but I’m not a big believer in man-made climate change.' "

Whatever that site is, it hurt my brain trying to make heads or tails of its own words.

  • Latest Rasmussen poll Trump 42, Clinton 37. This up from beginning of the month when Trump 41 Clinton 39.

Also Hillary surpasses Trump on unfavorables.

Now to this edition of TDS. Trump appoints a climate change skeptic and that is not good enough. OK.

    Edit: Rasmussen not Fox poll.

    • As an aside, apparently Pat Buchanan is now nothing more than a liberal RINO too. (That's how DEEP the CONSPIRACY goes!)

    • If they're spending my money to fight "climate change" I don't care what label they have. A thief is a thief.

      • I agree. However, Trump is not in power and you appear to jump to any negative of Trump, most from the media.

        • (snip)Nearly half of Republicans – and 72% of independents – say they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who thinks climate change is a hoax.... Today’s populism, it seems, includes a concern for the planet.....

Oh the humanity...the guy shows respect for opposing views. Trump is no conservative..we're doomed!!!

          • You can't determine the truth by taking a poll. Either the climate is warming cataclysmically because of man-made CO2 or it's not, and polling independents and Republicans has zero to do with it.

"Falsehoods are false even if everyone believes them and the truth is true even if noone believes it."--Yoda

          • You're wasting your time. You would have an easier time convincing she whose name shall not be mentioned, that France is a Muslim shithole, and Obama is a lousy president.

        • If the media reports what Trump's energy adviser says, that's not "from the media." That's "from Donald Trump's energy adviser."

  • It's a sign that he's learning to be more of a politician, adapting his stances to "prevailing" thought. He's learned he won't win anything just by being a blowhard.

Realistically, a Trump/Hilliary race is really two center left democrats, one trying to appear progressive and one trying to appear conservative.

This year's race will involve more flip flopping than a few dozen beached fish on a hot day.

  • Sounds like he's stroking the fence sitters. Who predicted he would swing left of center to secure the general election? <<<<<

    • Yeah, he could be just angling for the independents with all these backpedals, but isn't his whole appeal about speaking bluntly and NOT pussy footing?

      • We know darned well that is his appeal. I'm pretty certain swinging left a bit wins the general election. Who knows which direction he goes once the office is secured. THAT is what worries me about Trump. We know 100% that Cruz would not have wavered a millimeter from his far right conservative platform had he been able to secure the nomination. I'm pretty sure he would lose a general election as a result. We get Hillary or Trump. I've still got to go with a somewhat unknown Trump presidency than the uber left wing Clinton.

        • I don't think Cruz would have lost. I don't really think it's possible for anybody to lose to Hillary, she's that bad. If she was just a crook that would be okay if she was appealing, but she's a crook AND unappealing.

          • I think it would be a close one if he did. The media hates Cruz. Most of the swing vote does as well. The rino establishment really hates him and I think he'd have had a harder time getting them behind him than Trump will. Upside - I still get to keep my Senator!! We all do actually.

          • So the guy that lost to Trump would be better against Clinton than the winner? OK.

If you do not think the media would gone full tilt on his father and his religion you are sadly mistaken.

          • "So the guy that lost to Trump would be better against Clinton than the winner?"

Seriously, dude, you cannot read. I didn't say that. What the hell is your problem anyway?

          • Pardon me?

This should put to rest any lingering thoughts about the establishment holding their collective nose and lining up behind Cruz to stop Trump. The establishment is determined to stop them both, even if it means throwing the presidential race to the Hilldebeest.--

You sure flip flop a lot

          • You can't read either. Seriously, take a remedial reading course our something before you embarrass yourself further. There is no flip flip because there is no contradiction. Yes, the establishment hates Cruz and yes, I think they prefer Hillary over Turmp, but that doesn't mean they could have made Hillary a winner. She's too awful. Trump would have to fart in an elevator, come out of the closet as a KKK member, and declare bankruptcy the week before the election to lose. Mind you, it's not a sure thing because Trump could easily do all of those things...

          • JP, you should just stop engaging the deranged Trump Trolls. They don't want to debate, just scream about how we're haters. This one only shows up on a Trump thread, and has nothing to contribute anywhere else, therefore has nothing to contribute at all. At least jukin posts on other threads.

          • I do like waffles and it was one of the biggest disappointments of my life when I moved down South and learned that Waffle Houses don't make Belgian waffles. I thought I was moving into waffle nirvana and I wasn't.

  • He should nominate Jonathan Gruber to be his running mate and cinch the election for Obama-in-drag.
