Submarines make 8-10 thousand gallons per day, most of which goes to the Reactor Plant for makeup water. There is enough water left over for crew members to take a shower daily; however, the shower consists of wetting yourself down, soaping/ shampooing, then rinsing off. The shower is a 30 In by 30 In by 7 ft Stainless Steel box that's usually freezing cold. An ideal shower has the water running for only 30 seconds. Longer than that is what we would call a "Hollywood Shower". Water is not recycled. Grey water from sinks and showers is pumped overboard, and sanitary tanks are blown overboard with high pressure air. Oxygen is made either by burning O2 candles or by electrolysis. CO2 is scrubbed out with Monoethanolamine. As for the shower thing, I heard it was a shipyard worker that installed the camera during a sea trial. It doesn't excuse the guys passing the video around, though.

As water is easy to make on nuclear powered subs I believe they do shower. Water is a by-product of producing O2.
The frequency and duration of the shower may be limited.
I was instructed to keep my showers to two minutes or less. ( aboard a nuke powered carrier ) The norm is to turn the tap off between rinses while brushing your teeth.

You should take a look at what's going on in the submarine community. They send 22 year old, freshly graduated young women into an all male environment without any seasoned guidance or mentor ship..... I bet you all can guess what has happened!

I think they do. But the water smells, from what I hear because it's all recycled. In fact, that is part of the current issue. Women onboard one of the subs were videotaped showering for months. The guys spread the videos around. Wasn't until one of them forwarded it to another sub that they got caught. During the training hauls, I guess a COB got caught with one of the females.
I hate it when women misuse an ear of corn like that.

The requirements are just too hard and the standards need to be lowered. That is what will be said by president putter and the NAGs. When that is done, brave men and women will die. The standard are there for a reason.
The ONLY reason that Obama wants the Marines to have women in combat leadership positions is because he figures if they can pass the test, even he, President Lady Pants, could become a Marine.
I'd venture to say that the women that are failing the test could whoop his ass with both eyes tied behind their back.
