UN consultant: Ban Dante’s “Divine Comedy”

UN consultant: Ban Dante’s “Divine Comedy.” “Dante’s Divine Comedy should be banned from Italian schools as a racist and Islamophobic text rather than esteemed as one of the greatest achievements of Western poetry, according to a human rights organization that acts as a consultant for the UN.” If Dante were alive today, the hell he’d be writing about is the UN.

  • Well, I am offended by the horrific punishments of "infidels" and "blasphemers". So I guess we're even.

    • You have a right to be offended. What you don't have is a right to not be offended. In other words, I have a right to offend you. And I work diligently to offend you every day. I would LIKE to see you go away.

  • Anybody have an idea what rule I could have broken to have a comment refused? It was tame, only thing I can think of is the link was rejected. Not bitchin', just wondering.

    • You said you were an Obama supporter in your profile. Kidding ;)

I had one blocked too. Didn't have anything to do with this website, it was something I did. It happens on a lot of other websites. Sometimes you have to sign off and sign back on to comment. Its probably the NSA. Not joking about that either :(

    • I once had a comment rejected four times and then the site blocked my IP address. I literally had to force my network to assign me a new IP address in order to be able to access this site again. There was nothing that I could see in my comment that was out of bounds. There wasn't a link or even any 4 letter words. I finally just re-typed the whole thing and it went in. I think somehow I entered a non-printable TCP control character (perhaps accidentally hitting CTRL while typing) which "annoyed" the server and caused it to banish me.

      • What I do is make the post without the link, then edit the post to add the link afterward. It works every time.

  • Interesting thing: Has anyone here read Dante's "Divine Comedy"? Do you know WHY Mohammed is in the Inferno? He's imprisoned at the level of sinners called "Sowers of Discord."

Dante knew what he was talking about.

  • How long until Muslims in European countries start demanding that European religious art be covered up, hidden, or destroyed? How long until the Sistine Chapel is converted into a mosque? How long until the enormous gifts of the Renaissance are lost forever?

These questions once would have seemed ridiculous, but now they're all too credible.

    • The questions were always credibe and never ridiculous in my estimation because Muslims have been doing all the things that you have stated to other churches, countries, religions and institutions for centuries. They have destroyed, hidden and covered historical facts, architecture, art, etc. of other cultures and religions. Mohammed did it, when they took over Jerusalem they did it to the Temple Mount, when they took over Turkey the same thing, also in Spain... If people are thinking this is so long ago and who cares then read this: http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,515958,00.html not that long ago.

So the situations that you are posting there are not that far fetched.

  • I wrote a children's book (it's brilliant, BTW) wherein the hero quotes Dante. When I go to schools to do talks with kids, I notice a lot of head-scarfs, if you get my drift.

I often wonder how much longer I'm going to be able to get away with this!

  • I have always believed that Dante's Inferno from "La Divina Commedia" (at the very least) should be made into a movie. In the past years, whenever I had that thought I would add that I think it would be difficult to do it unless they took out the Islamic architecture and references which would actually take out a great chunk of the purpose of the novel to begin with. I personally believe that Dante was correct in adding that Islam is from the devil and that perhaps the architecture of hell would have minarets. I have no problem with Mohammed being in Hell as per Dante. Then I would think that I was shocked that no one has come after Dante yet. Considering that it is so old I thought that perhaps they wouldn't bother with Dante because of that.

Low and behold it has happened, and it came from the UN, a cry for a ban on Dante after so many centuries because of this desire to protect a so called oppressed people. If someone had decided to make it into a wide released movie, they would have (wink) hell to pay unless they took out all Islamic references from it. Amazing. However, they would celebrate the popes that are in Hell as per Dante and others who claimed to be Christians and they weren't who are in Hell as per Dante. They may even say they should put Bush in there and blah blah blah. My mind was in essence ahead of this, I am just surprised that it took this long.

    • "I personally believe that Dante was correct in adding that Islam is from the devil..."

Me too. There aren't many people willing to say such a politically incorrect thing out loud.

    • KimmyQueen, they're still peeved about the Crusades. You don't think they're going to forgive a little thing like the Divine Comedy, do you?

      • Well in all truth I am just surprised that it took this long after 9/11 for this to happen. Right after 9/11 people were so worried that Bush was going to encamp all Muslims. It never happened. For some weird reason people were just clamoring to protect the Muslims when we were attacked by Muslims ?!?! Does that make any sense to anyone? I don't believe in repeating the mistakes of WWII and encamping people after a terrorist attack/act of war. However the overly protective measures heaped upon Muslims and the PC stupidity is just too much. To the point of not printing comics in newspapers and making sure not to insult their religion on any level of society. In all reality Dante is an easy target, it is just so stupid to me.

  • If the PC crowd wants to censor, bowdlerize or scrap a peice of medieval literature because it offends modern sensibilities they should start with the Koran. Plenty of racism, anti-semitism, anti-Christianity, homophobia, pedophilia and incitement to violence there.

  • Weird story. It never ceases to amaze me how libtards manage to apply the word "racism" to groups which are not a race. Islam is a religion, so how can it be racist to write about what happens to them in hell?

I despair for the world. People seem to be getting stupider every day.

    • I'd ascribe it to prejudice. The idiots obviously think all Muslims are Arabic or black, as dumb as saying all Christians are white or all Buddhists are oriental.

      • Exactly. Once again the left/socialist/communist show that it is them that are truly racists as they put color to every aspect of their criticism of anything.

    • Some say the UN makes the Nazis look like Girl Scouts. What? Nazis have already infiltrated the Girl Scouts??
