UN rep/Princeton prof Richard Falk calls for “world capital” in Istanbul. At first you want to snicker at the notion of putting the world capital in a Muslim country. It’s like a joke – like making East St. Louis the capital of Illinois. But then it dawns on you: “Hey, does that mean they’ll move the United Nations out of New York? Great idea!”

Falk is a left wing old goat who writes for "The Nation" and the "Progressive" and other socialist outlets.
Back in the early 70s he defended violent anti-war protesters. In 1979 he praised the Ayatollah as a man of moderation and an example to other Third World revolutionaries. After 9/11 he championed a panel to investigate the involvement of Bush and the "neocons" in plotting the attack. He's also been accused of being an anti-semite.
