US Ebola patient told staff of Liberia travel but was allowed to leave hospital. Yep, we’re really prepared for Ebola! Nothing to worry about! Except gross incompetence.

  • I wasn't there, so I don't know for sure what happened with this, but I will take a stab at it to let you see how bad the system really is. First, the patient would have told a screening nurse what was going on, this would be entered into a computer. The nurse would be sitting on her back side and likely did not now the geography of Africa. Then, contrary to popular opinion, computers really suck, especially in getting information about a hospital. There would not have been a flag that would have notified the doctor of the history. Once the patient gave this history, he would not do so again as he would think that it is now in the system. The doctor sees the patient. He thinks (I am a doctor), ok, another ill patient who is not supposed to be in my ER with the other 1000 people who have similar problems and the ones that are concerned over being bitten by a mosquito and are afraid they are going to get West Nile, or whatever the disease of the month is from the news media. Plus, he was likely conducting about 2 or 3 running codes at the same time. Of course, there is every chance he recognized the problem and thought that if he admitted that patient, hospital administration would be on his butt in two seconds as there is no way that anyone would reimburse the hospital for the actual cost of care. The insurance companies would only allow maybe two days of care. Plus, I know this hospital and it sucked in the 70's and has not improved since. The fact is that if you want to keep this disease under control, you keep it out of the US. But our fine, smart president can't even do that.

  • I read that he only told one person and that it did not get passed on to the team. How much you want to be political correctness and the fear of losing a job played into not saying the man, the black man, came from the country of Africa, city of Liberia. I also bet that this will not be a concern again as if it ever should have been.

    Man I love the post racial-ness Obama brought to our country. Heck of a job Bammy, heck of a job.

  • Fantastic. What in the hell was he doing here in the first place? There needs to be a ban on all flights from the countries that have active cases of Ebola.
