  • Speaking of healthcare and hospitalization, here is an email I got today. It's about 3 years old, but true.

    If you doubt any part of what Dr. Jones says, go visit your local hospital emergency room as an observer for an hour or so some Friday or Saturday night.

    Dear Mr. President:

    During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ring tone.

    While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"!

    During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer.

    And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses.

    Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture", a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based on the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me."

    Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear.

    • As someone with a fair amount of ER (and home health) experience, HUZZAH! Someone has stopped being PC and has said what the real fact of the matter is. As many of us have repeatedly stated, we don't mind helping those who truly need the help/ We resent paying for those who CHOOSE to be grasshoppers, not ants, then expect the ants to take care of them when winter arrives!

          • Yes, Alien. That is why she took her leave last time. I would suspect the same this time as well. She said it was located on her leg which makes me guess melanoma which can be quite aggressive once it enters into the lymph system.

          • I think she said so back at the end of October or beginning of November...somewhere around there.

          • The last I heard she had "major surgery>" with no explanation other than that. When did we find out she had some kind of cancer? I wish her well medically, and hope SOMEONE is looking out for her (since she may be the least knwlegable nurse I have ever run across) and that she reuturns to full health soon.

          • I am highly suspicious person when it comes to liberals. I don't want to say that she may be lying as cancer is a serious thing and no one should be lying about that. However, I have found that there are people who DO lie about things like that. I hope she isn't one of those people. If she is sick, I hope she takes the time to heal and to study and pray/meditate about her life. She really shouldn't spread ignorance. I hope she is well.

          • I miss her as much as I miss Jimmuh Carter.
            I don't wish her ill, but I do wish her to be cured of the mental illness of liberalism. She might be fun to have around if she wasn't so damned adamant about being wrong.

          • And if she comes back I plan on more of the same TD MO. I do hope she is well but I also enjoy the peace and quiet.

          • Sick or not we effectively ignored her just before her departure. She had run her course here. I don't miss her but I do hope she isn't sick.
