She wasn't texting. She only pulled the phone out towards the end so she could use it as an excuse. Looks to me like she saw the power company truck and decided to set herself up with a lawsuit.
You're right. If you look from the 9 second mark on, she was looking all around, INCLUDING FORWARD, so unless she was blind, she should have noticed the big metal door sticking up out of the sidewalk. If I was on the jury, she wouldn't get a dime!
