Virginia moves closer to creating state’s own currency

Virginia moves closer to creating state’s own currency. “Lawmakers in Virginia say they want to keep their options open in case the value of the U.S. dollar ever collapses…” It’s as if they don’t trust the hackers at the Fed or something…

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • Florida will probably just use oranges and grapefruit as currency.

Actually, I think this is a good idea, it would be one step in making each state it's own commonwealth, and eventually country.

    • Utah already has it, I think. Also Amazon (the retailer) has it's own currency of sorts, which is not such a bad idea as they reach across state and even national boundaries and could function as part of a substitute exchange mechanism. If they could get together with the eBays and other such entities (maybe the states themselves), they could replace a large part of the monetary system, as least as far as buying/selling/trading is concerned. If the dollar does collapse, the market may find ways to adapt.
