War Number Four! With boots on their way to the grounds of Africa the White House must be breathing a sigh of relief that so many of the peaceniks retired mere moments before his inauguration.

  • I think it's a smoke screen. Clinton did the same thing. Ever time he got in a jam.....whoooosh off went some crusie missiles. Somalia? Dickboy will probably go in the same way, under strength, minimal support, low carbon foot print if you will. Blackhawk down...

    • Astute observation, indeed. The cruise missile party happened the night before his impeachment as I recall. Got that story put on page 15 while the 75 cruise missiles - a rather expensive array - going to all those bin Laden tent cities got the full front page and several peripheral stories about how they'd been gathering all this intel from the various countries and their spys for all these months, all bubba's work of course, took up most of the rest of the nations papers' real estate.

      I noticed the story about eric holder being subpoenaed for Fast & Furious warranted fewer that 35 words, as the 3rd of four hardly noteworthy items, in the little addendum section of the Tampa Bay Tribune - Trib2 its called - all the way back on the second last inside page in a box of blurbs under the header "Briefly". While this is all but completely ignored by the made-up stories media - only CBS is violating the terms which keep their lips sutured to president solyndra gunwalker's sphincter - holders 'facial gesture' gets a big picture the next day for his brilliant handling of the Iranian plot to kill the Saudi on American soil using a Mexican drug cartel operative that turns out to be a DEA agent (one in the same as it turns out anyway), a cauldron he's apparently been stirring for months in preparation to divert attention from the administration's grossly illegal conduct in efforts to damage our constitutional rights.

      That last winding sentence could have been reworked. Did it make sense?

    • It is exactly how Vietnam started (by which of course is meant US military involvement there in the 1960s rather than its origins as a distinct culture and nation - sorry I'll shut up.) except we opened the bidding there with a couple thousand rather than a mere hundred.

      • Saint JFK sent in SF troops to Viet Nam. Funny you never hear mention that he started that war. All the credit goes to "flop ears Johnson."

        • Actually, the "military advisors" were first sent by Eisenhower. Kennedy at least had the sense to realize Viet Nam was a mistake. One of the theories on his assasination was that he wanted to withdrw all support from Viet Nam, and too many didn't want that to happen.

        • I know a man that flew A26 Invader bombing missions in 1962 over Vietnam. These were old Douglas aircraft that accommodated a pilot and navigator sitting up front. Then, to lend plausibility to the ruse that Americans were serving only in an advisory role, they gave a local a parachute and tucked him in the back. behind the bomb bay, where he had a seat to strap into and everything!

          My schoolmate's uncle most recently was employed as Delta Airlines Chief of Pilots although I believe he is now retired. I bumped into him 3 years ago at a gun show in Orlando where he related this story, among a few other hair raisers, to my son and I. The last part of the story was interesting. He said they had been doing these missions for several weeks and once, towards the last of them they returned and cleaned up. Upon entering the officers club they watched JFK on TV saying that US military were conducting no combat missions and were training all manner of military people of South Viet Nam. This raised a muffled but audible chuckle all around.

          These guys were not CIA spooks or even being handled by CIA. Straight up USAF. They were aware that putting a local with a chute strapped into the back of the plane, only way in and out was thru the bottom, behind the bomb rack, was that in case they crashed or were shot down, there had to be evidence that Americans were training ARVN people. They were surprised to find that the combat missions were being publicly denied.

          After all this stuff he related a story about repossessing a 747 from a little dictatorship in Africa. THAT was a real interesting story! Bob is a real cool dude.

          • You never hear about the use of air assets at that stage of the war. I'm guessing because dropping ordinance on indigenous folks from US aircraft signifies more than just training to the average Joe. Can't sully the sainted memory of JFK with that information can we?
            I'd really like to sit with your friend and hear his stories. I've spent a lot of time with VN chopper jocks, door gunners and mechanics. The stuff they did and their stories are truly amazing.

  • Strange isn't it? All those anti-war activists who went out of business when Obama took the oath of office. Apparently soldiers only died when Chimpy McHitler was in the Oval Office. Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Africa? Say what? All down the Memory Hole since January 2009.

    Like everything else about the Obama Presidency, it stinks of hypocrisy.

    • During the Reagan/Bush years it was "homelessness." "Every night there are 10 million homeless families sleeping in the street!" "20 million!" "75 million!" The number went up every damned day. Every rock concert I went to the artist would stop in the middle of the show to talk about "the charity organization collecting for the homeless outside the arean tonight. Please give generously."

      Clinton was elected... and apparently the homeless people found homes the day after the inauguration, because the word was put out to pasture.

      • Yes, and I recall that shortly after George W. was elected -within days- I heard Limbaugh commenting on the radio that suddenly The Homeless were back in the news.
