Seriously though old friends, music is the best healer known to man. Good music, country music especially, can make you laugh or make you cry and if you listen to the words instead of the music itself you will know what I mean. Because it is the words that make the song, that reach into you and rip your heart out or send your spirits flying. It's the words, not the tune that make music great.

Yeah, I'm a golfer, and the reigning champion of my golf league yet again. That's three championships in the five years of the league's existence. Everybody hates my guts. Which is the way I like it.
Of course, it really helped that I almost died last winter and came back so lame and weak I could barely tap the ball fifty yards down the fairway. And sometimes I would stand there and tap it sideways three or four inches five or six times in a row. As I gradually improved along with my health, gradually going from worst golfer in the league (perhaps in the world) to best golfer in the league, you can imagine how my giant handicap was helping us slaughter people. Guys were threatening to have a special rules meeting to adjust my handicap but fortunately my partner is the secretary of the league...
We were all glad to hear you got over your health problems JP, and that is from the heart.
But a golfer? Guddamn man, can't you find a better way to waste your time? You hit a little white ball with a stick, try to find it, then hit it again and chase it again. Over and over! At least baseball makes sense! You hit a little white ball with a stick and you don't have to chase after it, try to find it, someone will throw it back to you! Then you can hit the little ball with your stick again and someone will throw it back to you again!
Doesn't that make more sense than wandering all over the biggest waste of land and water known to man, trying to find a little white ball? LMOAO...Have a great day buddy, take care of yourself.

Nobody around today? That's OK, I'll see everyone tomorrow. I'm about done but I guess I should explain to my friends here why I have been kind of down the last few days. Friday was the anniversary of the death of the last man I served with in Cambodia, I am the only one left. So I have been hitting the bottle a little to hard, crying in my beer, because I will never forget all the men I served with who are no longer with us. R.I.P. Little John, we miss you. And a song that says how families feel when they lose a loved one in battle.

It is it's own kind of curse, to outlive your friends. I've seen two of my best friends die already--broke my heart, both of them. My father knows this pain thoroughly because he's nearing 100 and nobody he served with in WWII is left. Nobody. And none of his friends are left. His wife and one of his sons is gone. For God's sake, even his grandchildren are old at this point. But to paraphrase Mark Twain: outliving your friends is bad but it's better than the alternative.
Not just friends, brothers I served with in Cambodia years ago. We were closer to each other than to our own families because of where we were at and what we were doing. And when John died in 2006 that left just me, I am the only one left.
The last one. Skynyrd and Montgomery Gentry? Ain't no better music ever been done! With all the fubars going on in our country remember this, everyone needs to kick back and just enjoy life once in a while or you will get eat up. Crank it up and enjoy! Have a shot or tall one and relax because the sun will come up in the morning just like always.
