I am so frickin' SICK of hearing that same tired line about Warren Buffett's secretary paying lower taxes than he does.
First off HARRY - you are a wrong and liar. He pays himself with capital gains, which is taxed differently than direct, salary income. If he wants to pay more - he can give himself a salary of an equivalent amount and then see how much Uncle Sam takes before he goes spoutin' off.
Second, from the bastion of conservatism the New York Times and straight from Brook's op-ed: "In reality, the top 10 percent of earners pay nearly 70 percent of all income taxes, according to the I.R.S. People in the richest 1 percent pay 31 percent of their income to the federal government while the average worker pays less than 14 percent, according to the Congressional Budget Office."
Me: and that's not counting the nearly 50% (I think the figure is actually around 48) of folks in this country than incur NO FED income tax

It ought to tell you something about Brooks' conservatism that he believes Obama so frequently, but hey, he's the New York Times conservative and the favorite conservative of Meet The Press.
