    • Fame is an idol. It is so interesting to read how Lord Jesus Christ reacted to fame. He didn't seek it out and He even asked people not to speak about what He did at times. He even escaped the crowds everytime He could. He knew what many unfortunately don't know that fame is/can be a fickle idol that is there to ensnare and damage if it is not conquered and used appropriately.... like money.

  • Tragic and now we learn her Anthem at Superbowl 25 was pre recorded. She was lip syncing. How lame. I feel used and dirty.

    • Have you seen the video? I don't think that was lip sync'd. As a vocalist myself, her breathing, mouth positions, evrything looks very real. I think someone may be pulling your leg.

      • I was surprised to find this out this morning on my local news station in Tampa. The Superbowl was here that year and the man that produced the halftime show said the whole thing was pre-recorded due to the complexities involved. I've spent decades in the music business, playing on stage starting in my teens and ever since, several years as a tech at a state of the art recording studio, festival and concert stage coordinator and manager and union stage hand, to name most of it but I know I'm missing some. I was surprised as could be to hear him say it but then looking it up on the interwebs due to your skepticism - and my incredulity - and sure enough, it was admitted not long after the performance. I'll dig through for the guy's name and possibly the actual report, but it is so. She did a very convincing job of it, that's for sure.

        • Wow. She faked it REALLY WELL! Course, she WAS a pretty good actress. Maybe what was heard was the prerecordiong, but she sang it anyway to make it look authentic?

          • Exactly what I think, too. Microphone off, and nobody is gonna hear her over the blasting public address system. She was a great talent and it probably would only have sounded like a double track vocal anyway. Recorded weeks in advance in a L.A recording studio. Then they released it and it became another one of her top selling recordings. I might have to dig that up to hear it without the crowd noise.

  • Tragic, yes. But unfortunately not unexpected.

    There are two things about her that stick in my head. First was when she played at the Pond in Anaheim, in one of the first concerts there. It was reported that, about twenty minutes into the show, she berated the audience for not responding as she thought they should...and then walked off stage.

    Second is a quote in Time magazine that, although taken out of context, is pretty clear: "America f***ed with me. White America f***ed with me."

    I am sorry she fell down a drug-induced spiral - that's always sad. I pray for her family, especially her daughter. But I was never a fan of hers.

    • Even after leaving bobby beatme brown, she was not able to beat her demons. That is tragic. Why do we care? I never had any of her music but heard plenty of it in various places. Saw her acting in one at least maybe two flicks and she wasn't bad at all. Properly painted she shone like a brilliant star! It's just sad I guess. Her Anthem performance was likely the thing I found most endearing. I hadn't heard about her turning racist. It seems 'white' America stopped paying her hundreds of millions of dollars after she couldn't stop sucking the burning dick stuffed full of rock coke. Bummer.

  • I was never a big fan of her music, but I guess I liked her OK. Celebrity deaths usually don't bother me much, but I really got a pang when I read this last night.

    She always seemed very sweet. Bye, hon.

  • boo hoo...some washed up singer turned drug addict dies,and america's supposed to cry? amy winehouse,cobain...etc. blah blah blah...

    • I remember when Britney's obituary was written when she was going at the craziest stage of her life. I think they did the same for La Lohan. Lohan did Playboy (yuck) to reinvigorate her career (did it work?), so let's hope that she is getting something out of it and not conducive to more drugs.

    • It doesn't affect my life and I am assuming neither yours, however this is yet another great example of how Hollywood and the entertainment business is full of crap and it can be detrimental to the health of people. If I ever get to have a child and she or he has grand designs to be in the entertainment biz I need to do the right thing and make sure they know the dark side of it all and ask them if it is worth it. If I see they have addictive personalities I will try to dissuade them as much as possible.

  • I heard that she had a very toxic relationship with her father and that this was one demon she couldn't seem to get past. I'm not sure they reconciled before his death in 2003. I heard they didn't. This is sad in that she tried to call on the power of faith to help her battle drug abuse and her demons. I remember when she was first starting out in the 80s, there was controversy in the black community which thought record executives were trying to make her too white to appeal to a mass audience.

  • I was shocked, this was not expected to me at all, even though I knew of her problems. I felt that she just needed a time to get out of the Bobby Brown funk and that she was getting help. I feel really bad for her and for her family especially her daughter who is by far the most normal of that whole situation.

    • It's like Karen Carpenter's death from anoexia: even though she cleaned up and got on the right track, the damage was already done.

      • Mark Sandman of Morphine - the name of his band, not what he died from. Not a big druggie. Great band. Him on his home built 2 string slide bass guitar - very weird and cool - and singing, a sax player and a drummer. Look em up, great sound. Heart attack after a show in 99. He was 46.         • Must admit do not know much of it because they were and died before I was born. Overall though I think Iheard of KC growing up she was used as an example of anorexia nervosa and how it was bad for girls, but the teacher was obviously a fan or something. As for Mama Cass I will have to admit to my detriment I only heard of her on the Austin Powers movie.

          • Mama was one of the group Mamas and Papas. Had an absolutely fantastic voice. She was morbidly obese, and whenshe died an erroneuos headline reported she had died from choking on a piece of sandwich. Her real cause of death was a heart attack, due to the ongoing strain her weight caused, combined with 60's rather free use of drugs.
