A classified mea-culpa: after the mid-90s defection of Hussein Kamel al-Majid (Saddam’s son-in-law & 2nd cousin), Saddam decided to forego the “cheat and retreat” policy he had been using since 1991, and play it straight. But the CIA continued to assume he was still lying. “There was no sudden intelligence failure caused by Blackwater, George Bush and Dick Cheney.” A massive, decade-long screw-up.

No WMDs in Iraq? Try telling that to the Kurds that Saddam gassed. But if I remember correctly didn't Tony Blair's bumbling crew of idiots feed most of the intelligence to the CIA?
Actually, some Iraqi guy reprted it to get America to come over ther and get rid of Sadam. HE now says it was a lie, so of course, the Dems (even the majority who voted FOR the war)jumped right on that bandwagon and tarred and feathered Bush, like he should have had a crystal ball or something.

Still enough voted FOR it to get a result that put us in Iraq. WIth funding. Then the Dems suddenly forget what they voted for and it was all Republican war mongers that got us into an "illegal" war in Iraq.

I'm gonna have to call BS on that study. By stating its original premise as being that Iraq had no WMDs, it already misses the boat. We know different now, so the premise is delusional. No wonder the study has been declassified. Cripes, the talk now is about what will happen to Iraq's WMDs that ended up in Syria. How can anybody still be talking about no WMDs in Iraq?
Democrats are fully armed and ready to argue that no wmd's is evidence of Bush lying to the country (as if) and to tout how fearless leader would NEVER do that!
I agree. I ignored that part when I wrote my earlier post but the CIA misses a lot and that is the larger truth in the piece. No doubt in my mind General Sada's claim that the WMD's were sent to Syria is true.
Yeah, I think the CIA is just bureaucrats like every other government agency. You want good intelligence, set up a congressional/executive branch committee to reward private contractors based on what they produce and let red-blooded non-bureaucratic Americans go out and make some money ferreting out secrets. We'd know everything about Iran's nuclear program within six months.

Exactly. And who would you rather trust, someone whose business depends on his reputation, or a bureaucrat at the CIA who's more worried about unused vacation days?

I think the last point is crucial. There is no guarantee that the intelligence community has Iran right. I know it did not have the USSR right. They missed the 1991 Yeltsin rebellion completely.
