Taxpayers paying wind farms NOT to generate electricity. Wind farms, built with government subsidies and maintained with tax credits, are now getting paid to shut down due to oversupplies of renewable power. Hey, maybe we can shut down DC due to oversupplies of stupidity? We’ve generated enough for the next few millenia in the last 3 years alone.

Is this undersupply of batteries to store the oversupply?
God I hate windmills. Ever since I did the reasearch for my column (http://jpattitude.com/111210.php) and leaned how many of the stupid things aren't working (they require tremendous amounts of maintenance) they drive me crazy. When my wife and I recently drove across the country, we counted non-moving blades and it came to about 10%. Add that 10% to the large percentage that still have moving blades but no longer produce any electricity. Fact is, once the installers get their government kickback for constructing the stupid things, nobody really has a big incentive to maintain them.

Isn't the who point of renewable power that you don't have to worry about supply? I sense intervention with big oil to control the competition.

Power companies are required BY LAW to pay for (buy back) excess power produced.
If, fox example; You put solar panels on your home, and produced MORE energy than you used in any given collecting period, your meter would run backwards. Then the "evil corporation" would be required BY LAW to send YOU a check for that amount of energy.
In this case, it is cheaper to pay the producers to take the windmills offline that to pay the going rate for the EXCESS POWER produced.
I know this is a rather simplified (condensed) explanation, but it covers the basics. I am sure others here can, and will, correct any mistakes, or add their own knowledge in this matter.
In fact I am rather looking forward to it.
Yes, John, big oil made it real windy and made lots of water so there was an oversupply. Next month they'll heat the sun up so there's an oversupply of solar power.
