World Cups awarded to Russia and Qatar were the result of bribes

• I love soccer, I really do. I love the World Cup, & have watched every 1 since 1982. What happened was long overdue. Everyone who loves the game knows it is corrupt at the top. When the 2018 WC was awarded to Russia, it made many unhappy, but there is no doubt that Russia can handle hosting the event. Qatar on the other hand, cannot, & I doubt they ever host the 2022 WC. For several reasons...

  1. They have a population of just under 300,000 citizens, it's about the size of Rhode Island, & they need about 8-10 big time stadiums. They are building them with what amounts to imported slave labor, much of it from Nepal. Not to mention the heat will also be a danger to fans & players.

  2. Qatar is a muslim nation, & terrorism will be a concern. Also, several things may clash with muslim values. Like the fact 1 of the biggest sponsors is a beer company, currently that is Busch. Also, many of the fans who invade the host nation are women who don't wear much at all...

  ...I have a feeling that the USA might just end up hosting the 2022 WC. We have the best stadiums on the planet, we have the ability to host it on short notice, & I think it's going to happen. Qatar will never host it in 2022, never.

  Also, I have been listening to world reaction on the BBCworldservice & on TalkSportLive, both on XM, & most folks are thrilled at the arrests, & host that the game will finally get cleaned up. I hope they are right.

  • I figure the only reason they had it in Brazil was people got paid off. I mean really, the heat and humidity were horrid, then you get to having a stadium in the middle of the jungle where you have to fly to it (unless you''re Tarzan).

    I don't watch soccer, but I will watch the US play in the World Cup so I can root for the US. I'll root for anything US that will kick some foreign butts.

• When the Germans ask me who my favorite "football" team is, I am hard pressed to NOT give them my opinion of soccer.
  If I happen to have a computer handy, I show them REAL footballs greatest hits.

  My ladies nephew was in America and was taken to a football game, HE understands what I am talking about.

• Ugh, soccer. You know how pay-per-view works with kickball? If you pay, you don't have to watch it.
