When the constitution was written, there where no phones, no recorders, no phones yet there was freedom of the press. As time has moved forward, technology has as well. Now there are blogs and other Internet avenues for getting information out to the people. What Durbin won't admit is that the dim wits and their bed fellows the msm have lost control of the information that people are getting and they are pissed.
Now, the DoJ, the US Attorney General went shopping for a judge that in most likelihood failed constitutional law in order to obtain a warrant to snoopy into the presses emails, phone records and anything else that they and the useful tool at the FBI could come up. WS it not the New York Times that leaked all kinds of information about the things that were so called happening in Iraq and Afghanistan? All to the praise of the dim wits(see Hildabeast and Plastic Pelosi speeches) and other msm. Not once did the Bush administration violate the reporters 1st Amendment rights who had done the reporting. These communist ass holes are losing their grip and are trying to regain their power and control.

Hey, Senator Durbin, you idiot! The Bill of Rights in 2013 is the same as it was in 1913 and 1813. Everyone is entitled to freedom speech and freedom of the press, not just "journalists". People who tweet and people who blog have the same protections as a reporter for the NY Times. The First Amendment doesn't depend on the whims of Congress, it's a right guaranteed every American citizen, something we've had to fight for.
This is dangerous talk coming from a prominent Senator who just happens to be another member of the corrupt Illinois gang now inflicting itself on the United States. When Durbin took office he swore an oath to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, it now appears he'll have to protect it against himself.

Damn you, you ass! When the Founding Fathers considered "freedom of the press" they didn't mean that it should only apply to massive multi-national "real" newspapers and not those "pretend" news sites that are, y'know, "just some guy typing in his own little room."
A newspaper back in the 1700s was put out by one ink-stained printer with an 11-year-old apprentice (who would jolly well get his ears boxed if he behaved like a rapscallion!).

We had this crap during the recent spate of gun-grabbing talk. "The Constitution's out of date because now we have terrorists!" Read up on what an Indian raid on settlers was like in the 1700s. The Founding Fathers understood living with danger -- just as they understood the concept of an independent "nut" presenting his thoughts for public consumption.
And keep in mind: It's the damned people in our current government who have no grasp of history. That's like an airline pilot not knowing what "landing gear" means. We have a major idiot problem.
