I keep looking at the numbers. This issue affects some 3% of the population. They have managed to override 97% of the population. Even in basic democracy, you have to have 51% to "win." I don't really care about legal unions to protect assests and involvement in life decisions. Its the pushing it down my throat that rankles. How long before the state FORCES religious groups to bless these unions? And willthe same apply to Muslims, who are vocally antigay? We've opened Pandora's box and now we have to deal

As usual the will of the people means nothing to these Marxist clowns.
The thing is that this wasn't about expanding freedom. So now 1-5% of the population can marry. What is means is that the majority of the population (remember, even California voted down gay marriage) now loses the freedom to hold the values that they have held since the beginning of time.
The Progressives now have their wedge and the force of the US govt behind their attack on the Church. And by that I mean objective morality, not that teh Pope hasn't gone bat shit crazy lately too.
Justice Scalia should have been made Chief Justice. He understands fully the role of the courts. Not like the 5 or 6 fools that make shit up. These fools have no idea what they've done. Their rulings will in less than 10 years cause another Civil War and or a full scale revolt. The founders of this nation could not stand oppressive king. Now there is an oppressive court and a "king" who feels that they are far and above the rest of us.
It is now crystal clear that Congress is entirely irrelevant. POTUS writes law, SCOTUS rewrites law. That other branch is just a federally funded assisted living facility for gray-haired old farts and fartettes.
Someone needs to remind Scalia that we're not a democracy.
While semantically correct, you are not addressing the reality and focus of his points. Yes, we are a republic, but we vote on our leaders. Scalia's thrust was that these unelected justices are deciding laws, rather than our elected officials.
His comments are probably already opaque to may people, to drag them through republic and democracy differences would be too much.
