Long-term culture change? It appears to us like they’re more interested in brainwashing than speed. Vision Zero sounds like it should be Obama’s new plan for the country.

I heard the commercials trying to convince everyone that this is a great idea. A certain percentage (a sizable one), of deaths are attributed to speeding.
Now I don't doubt that. But somehow I suspect that the whole story is not being told. Specifically, how many deaths occurred due to people driving 25-30 mph that would have been prevented had they been driving 24 mph? You see, if someone is going 60 down Queens Blvd, it really doesn't matter if the speed limit is 25 or 30. How many of these speeding deaths were caused by impaired drivers? In a case such as that, the "statistics" can be used either way, whichever suits you at the moment. It's caused by speeding if you want to lower the speed limit, or it's caused by DUI if you want to lower the blood alcohol threshold to something on the take-a-whiff-of-this-wine level.
This is about expanding the revenue stream, plain and simple.

NYC is becoming a police state. They deserve it, they vote for the shit you see in city hall.
At 25 mph you won't even be able to outrun the locals that are on foot.
It seems the traffic 'market' in NYC has already set a speed limit well under 25MPH, although Comrade Mayor de Blasio and his accomplices would never admit it.
Been to NYC, being able to drive 25 would be a blessing.
Being able to hit 250 when it's in the rear-view mirror would be even better.
