3D printer builds 10 small houses a day for $5,000 each. Yeah, it doesn’t look like much, but neither did the first automobiles.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • And there are a bunch of slobbering people with woodies over @fema with visions of ginormous contracts dancing in their heads.

  • there are a a lot of green freaks that are wanking at 2500 rpm right about now. and there are builders/lumber producers who are thinking about new careers. Short lumber, builders, and concrete producers!

    • Yeah, but that's made of what? "A combination of cement and construction waste" sourced from and made in China. What could possibly go wrong building houses made out of Chinese construction waste.

You're right though. Somewhere, there's an all night circle jerk happening at some "green" think tank. Feverishly working on how to get some grant money from the administration, so we can get a few million of these beautiful structures delivered to the underprivileged.

      • I still think they would consider it a substandard living quarters, and racist to want to provide such housing to the poor.

        • You're right. I came across a column written by a black ESPN personality who claims that the gun violence in Chicago is directly attributable to discriminatory housing practices. In other words, if the gang bangers got to live in leafy neighborhoods in nice houses, they would be model citizens. Hey, you can't argue with kind of iron-clad logic!

          • RIGHT! Because every time they rent a house they keep it up and show pride, get a real job, and become productive members of society! NOT!!!

  • It may not look like much, but it's better than what about 75% of the world lives in now.

  • They should start building these en-masse, and using them to house welfare recipients. It should be the only home they can qualify for as long as they are collecting. That ought to cut the Section 8 budget down to something reasonable!

    • Don't kid yourself, this might be all that someone dumb enough to work & pay taxes will be able to afford. Subsidized housing will be much better. At least until it is ruined by people who don't care about anyone or anything but themselves, & why should they care? They didn't pay for it.

      • I know, that was what I was saying below. Some advocacy group would claim it is substandard and an insult to the poor and homeless.

  • By the time Obama gets done screwing over the country this will be the new middle-class ranch house.
