Caught this by accident and thought of this thread. Just like gun control, I think we need a 5 day waiting period, FBI background checks and a massive federal government push to make sure this never happens again.
Never happen, Obama doesn't care about drugs, he wants to let the drug sellers out of prison..He can't connect the dots, that drug sellers carry GUNS, and most of them are stolen guns..but as long as they either don't vote or vote democrat, its all good in da hood...
Plus, they all could be his son.
Shall I continue to wait for Obama's speech on this?
Don't bother. He's too busy trying to push for gun confiscation because of the latest mass killing in a gun free zone.

Due to budget impasse, Secretary of State suspends mailing license renewal notices

SPRINGFIELD - Illinoisans that aren't assisted by state agencies or don't work for state government may have not noticed yet that the state's budget for Fiscal Year 2016 remains at an impasse and is over 90 days past due.
That's about to change, because effective immediately, the "rubber will meet the road" because the Nanny State of Illinois has paused sending reminders out to the state's vehicle owners.
"Due to the lack of a state budget, the Secretary of State's office is suspending the mailing of vehicle registration renewal reminder notices," a notice on the Secretary of State's website says.
"By suspending this service, which will save approximately $450,000 per month, the office will be able to prolong the ability to mail vehicle registration renewal stickers, titles and license plates to vehicle owners for a few months longer before the postage account is depleted. Vehicle owners are encouraged to be mindful of their vehicle registration status. Motorists can sign up to receive reminder notices electronically by email."
In other words, the state of Illinois will save over $5.6 million a year by simply having motor vehicle owners be responsible and mark their calendars to renew their annual registrations before they expire.
Or, one can also sign up to get those notices via email - another very inexpensive way to be notified.
Now we'll see what happens when Illinois drivers are forced to be responsible citizens - or local municipalities will be raking in a windfall until the message gets out. Check your renewal times and save Illinois millions annually.
If they can get the death rate above the illegitimate birth rate, they can start working towards a better Chicago, one weekend at a time.
Open up a few more Planned Parenthood clinics and that ought to do it.
What would work better, make an appointment at Planned Parenthood and get a free gun....

Like every commie/fascist/progressive idea, gun control is failing because of some outside influence. It is never the fact that commie/fascist/progressive ideas are just really bad ideas.

While statistically it would seem true, the fact is that not all black males are criminals. So it's either something else, or a combination of factors. The easy next conclusion would be "aha - it's single mothers".
Yes, also statistically true, but again, not everyone growing up in a single mother household grows up to be a criminal. It's not like cigarettes or alcohol. Smoking WILL make you sick, eventually. Some sooner, some later. Alcohol WILL destroy your liver if consumed in a certain quantity over a certain period of time.
Being a black male with a single mother will not necessarily make you a criminal. Yes, it's more likely to, but the exceptions outnumber the criminal cases.
So it's still something else. I think it's more along the line of values and priorities that people choose. Values and priorities are often cultural, so certain phenomena will appear more often in certain groups (such as Jewish people winning a ridiculously disproportional number of Nobel Prizes)

The rise of the welfare state has brought the black population down, it is that simple. Remember when you were young and were told you had to earn something to learn to take care of it? Many of the people living in the inner cities are going on the third generation of never earning anything, they have never learned how to take care of anything. They have never learned to respect other peoples property because they have never had to work to earn their own property.
Also, those who do grow up and get off the plantation, like Dr. Carson, may have had just a mother in the home but their mothers worked instead of live on welfare. I'm sure she had pride in her possessions, whatever they were, so all the Carson kids learned that pride and ran with it.

If you have even 80% same result, I can see applying a one-size fits all approach. But it's not that, not even close, at least as far as criminality is concerned.
There are really two separate, though probably related, elements here - the welfare population and all those manifestations, and criminality. But not all people who disdain work, with or without gov't incentives end up being criminals or raising kids who are criminals. I'm talking about the percentages of criminality here.
I hate to use this as an example, because it's a Hollywood creation, but do you remember the TV show "Good Times"?
John Amos played the father, Esther Rolle played the mother, and Jimmy Walker was the oldest son.
They lived in the ghetto in Chicago, but were trying hard to get out by working hard and improving themselves. That is a great example for people in the same situation these days, but it's all too rare to find a ghetto family where the father is around, much less a hard working, strong father who believes in discipline, and teaches the kids to have pride in themselves, and not take the easy route of dealing drugs or stealing everything. There needs to be more examples like that today, but if someone produced such a show, they would be called Uncle Tom.

What is interesting is that, according to a rather well-researched book by Thomas Sowell, White Liberals Black Rednecks (or vice versa), the "black" culture of the inner city can be traced directly to early 17th century (give or take) Scotland and northern England. So not only are they acting white in general, but have accepted the culture of the people who were their slave masters in particular.
In any case, one thing that can be said about the inner city culture, looking at it from any viewpoint, is that it most certainly does not promote optimum survival. Statistically, a black male in the inner city has a shorter life expectancy than a black male on death row.
But the exceptions disprove any "rule" that anyone may assume (i.e. a generalization, or stereotype).
It's all about values and priorities - in other words, the choices we make.
And it applies to countries too. P.J. O'Rourke, in one of his books that I don't recall the title of right now and don't feel like searching through my bookshelves for it, had 2 contrasting chapters: Hong Kong, How to make everything out of nothing; and Tanzania, How to make nothing out of everything.
Hong Kong has nothing (Singapore is another good example) - no resources whatsoever. Yet they created one of the richest nations on earth.
Tanzania is one of the most resource-rich countries in the world. Yet it is also among the poorest. In researching all the reasons why Tanzania is poor, the only possible conclusion is: they CHOSE to do everything possible, every step of the way, to get the least possible advantage out of the resources, the people/labor, the capital, everything.
In other words, they are poor because they planned to be, and successfully executed that plan.
Choices.
Sounds like Obama read the chapter on Tanzania, and is using it as a blueprint for fundamentally transforming America.
I'm surprised he's not trying to emulate Cambodia under Pol Pot.
Probably the only thing stopping him is the fact that he hasn't been able to confiscate all the guns from the people.

You're analysis (spot on, btw) of Tanzania is applicable to South America and Africa. Two hugely resource rich continents where almost every country therein has failed its people. Obama is doing his best to reduce the U.S. to the lowest common denominator. I still have hope that being a self-selected population for the most part will keep the country viable. That said, the latest effort of sabotaging this country - massive immigration - puts us in uncharted waters as previous immigrant waves never had the promise of a welfare state. It is a form of Cloward - Piven.
Yes, most of Africa and SA. Good book on that I read decades ago - Underdevelopment is a State of Mind. Makes good comparisons of various countries. E.g., Argentina and Australia - similar size, climate, resources. One has prospered, the other, a basket case of a country for most of its history.
