If this were a commandement from GOD, even as the Mulisms understand him then pretty much every Muslim on the planet would wear them. They don't. Mohammed never recommended the hijab. That is a man made law that they have brainwashed into their women to make them too afraid to buck the system. I mean, you can argue with your Imam, but with GOD?
Okay...so if the prisoner is allowed to keep her hijab - and is warned of the dangers of doing so - then she and her family and the Islamic community should have no recourse if anything happens to her due to the wearing of the hijab. If it gets caught in something, if it is used to strangle her, if she hangs herself...if she knew the dangers and decided to do it anyway, it's all (if you'll pardon the expression) on her head.
I'd feel the same way about a crucifix on a chain, or a yarmulke, or whatever. If they know what they're getting into and they do it anyway, too bad - they were warned.
The problem is what if someone jerks the scarf off her head and strangles someone ELSE with it? Not to mention it could be used to hide all kinds of contraband. Its why you don't get to wear regular cloths in jail. Too many possibilities for abuse.
