    • Prefer the good old .45 caliber myself. I often hear that it is a "slow round", to which I reply "maybe, but I have yet to hear of any one outrunning it."

          • I really don't worry too much about the 9mm lack of punch. They've taken down quite a few criminals. I've read all the comparisons, and chose the 9.

          • I have nothing against the 9mm, it is quite an adequate round. I like the stopping power of the .45, but as with ANY round (even a .22) it is the placement of the shot that is important.

          • That's why some perps now end up with 50 bullet holes in them when there's multiple cops around.

          • 17 is a 9 millimeter. You might need those extra rounds. My models 21 and 30 are stuffed full with 16 rounds of 45 ACP. I find this to keep me warm and fuzzy. This includes the one in the spout, of course. The Colt's Series 70 GCNM only holds 9 all told, but it really is a most wonderful little machine. I got it new in 78 and it is still a b.ewe.tee. I hate doing that trick spelling crap.

            I have a Glock 22C in my midst as well. The 40 cal is a great round and the concealability of the slimmer profile is to be considered. But really, the added mass of the slower 230 grain Black Talon really does improve the comfort level for me. The hydrostatic shock is delivered most efficiently in this configuration.

            A gun battle ensued here (Florida) some years ago and one of the law men found himself on the receiving end of a few rounds each of 9mm and 45 ACP. He survived to say the getting hit with the 9mm was like a red hot poker ripping into the body. The 45 was more like being hit with a red hot Louisville Slugger™.

            I understand this comparison does not include a victim's personal experience of being shot with the 40 cal and 45 ACP or the 9mm. Volunteers seem hard to come by.

            I am interested in checking out the solid copper hollow point rounds that are really lite. Around 130 grain in 40 cal, I'll bet those suckers really deliver the mail with a quickness.

  • Thankfully this Martin story is going away. I actually stopped coming here for a while because I was sick of that story and the constant talk about it. It is definetly unfortunate this happen for this or any other reason.

          • THEY HADN"T HAD TIME TO SEND IT TO COURT! The boy was shot. the NEXT day there was an uproar because zimmerman had not been arrested. They wre still investigating. The media only give out a select portion of the story, the part most likely to create a stir and increase readership or viewing (depending on the media.)

  • Maybe it didn't show up in other news papers because if every crime in every town in the world made national headlines...that just fucking wouldn't happen. You can't expect a whole bunch of people to freak out over every single assault. And did they even tell this to anyone else? And if this was weeks ago, why is that paper just NOW reporting it? It was their own employees, why didn't they report it the day after it happened?

    • So, why is everyone freaking out about what happened in Sanford, FL? It was just one localized incident after all.

      • That was an exceptional incident where the dude got off because of the Stand Your Ground laws. This, as it happens, is just another case of the police being assholes, but unlike in the case of Martin, there isn't a law protecting the attackers.

        Now answer my other questions.

        • He didn't "get off you idiot. He was free while the incident was investigated, then charged. He just got ou on bond, and regardless if he is guilty of murder or self defense manslaughter he better keep his head down and out of sight. The neighborhood simly wants to shoot him on sight.
