Well in my line of work, they randomly drug test or if you get hurt and have to go to the ER, they drug test....If you fail, then most cases you will lose your job.....If you fail when applying, you pay for it. The random, ER and hiring tests are blood test....So I can certainly approve of drug testing for welfare recipients and if they fail make them pay for it instead of the taxpayer! There isnt an option for taking a drug test with most employers. So there shouldnt be one for government assisted benefit recipients as well. Maybe if they had to take a drug test anyway....You would quit drugs and get a job! Oh yea....I got some food stamps for sale. 50 cent on the dollar....Gotta get my fix!
All the controversy over peeing cracks me up.
When I was driving a truck, I had to deal with DOT checkpoints where they made you pee in a cup on the side of the road. Just don't get caught pulling over on the interstate and peeing in the woods, you get a ticket!
I would love to see Florida institute another law. Before you can enter a courtroom and plead a case, you have to take a drug test. Pretty much would keep the ACLU out of Florida!
How about we install "Pee Machines?" The first of every month welfare recipients go in a booth, confirm their ID with fingerprints, pee in a cup, and only get their money or EBT card after the test comes up clean? One dirty test and poof, money is gone. Or better yet, we have liberal politicians hold the cup?
Excellent idea I praise your thoughtfulness and straight forward approach to a problem we all know exists. If they weren't dope heads they would be able to haold a job, am I not right?
Well, not all long-term welfare recipients are druggies. Some are just lazy. I wish we could come up with a test for that.
As an aside, maybe the welfare recipients and the politicians, (on BOTH sides of the aisle), could hold the cups for each other?

Based on their argument... ALL drug testing other than that done with a warrant is unconstitutional. Any drug testing in order to receive money (ie, JOBS included) would be considered against the 4th amendment. That means we need to stop testing the military, stop drug testing for jobs, clearances, etc. This means I can stop getting drug tested for the privilege of giving my money to these smucks!
My union, the International Union of Operating Engineers, fought tooth and nail to keep drug testing out, for many years, claiming it was a violation of the right to privacy. What they DIDN'T do was listen to the members. Most of US wanted drug testing. Operating heavy equipment is a dangerous job, and we don't need it to be any more dangerous by having to do it with other operators that are high in one way or another. Now, after all these years, pre-hire testing is almost universal in the field, and most companies require testing after any kind of accident. I feel safer on the job.
No, it violates zero constitutional laws as we in the private sector must pee in a bottle to get a job, so they must do so to receive tax dollars.

I believe testing should be mandatory because those are tax dollars being abused, but I am still up in the air when it comes to MMJ, that should be left to state voters whether they get tested since that involves states rights.
It's not mandatory to accept welfare. Similarly, I don't have to work for a company that drug tests. I could go to work for one that does not, or start my own business. I think the ACLU is out on a limb using the 4th amendment to fight this.
Also, I don't recall the ruling on this by the Supreme court, Barny. Can you find it?
