America divided: inflation felt by many while Bernanke fights deflation. Helicopter Ben says inflation is mild but many people’s wallets say differently. Turns out, they’re both right – the unseen problem is that real wages and incomes are falling, so that while prices may be rising modestly, consumers have less and less money with which to buy. “Fixing” one problem causes a different one – surprise!

I'm afraid it's not going to get any better with these crooked excuses for politicians running things. Nobody wants to fix the underlying problems, it's all about finding someone else to blame.
Nobody wants to fix the underlying problems,
-------------------
Nobody except Ron Paul.
Your one of the underlying causes since you get paid by the rest of us to stay home and talk shit. If we didn't have socialists at the top and bottom feeders like you at the bottom, we might be okay, but with the Chicago Crackhead and the morons like Jerry Brown in Kalifornia, all I do is keep paying more of my money to support you and your family. Either get a job or STFU.
On The Fed, & ONLY on The Fed, Ron Paul is spot on. He would be my choice as Treasury Secretary. On most other things, he would be less then great.
Once again, inflation is nearly non-existent if you don't include those pesky items like food, utilities, gas, breathing..........
I have this recurring fantasy where I take all of my money and convert it to gold and untraceable off-shore accounts, rack up every credit card I own, and then thumb my nose at everyone and tell them to screw off.
Seriously - a few days ago I ran into a guy who's wife I used to work with like 20 years ago. They are on their THIRD bankruptcy, they have had at least their 3 home loans foreclosed on, they are both on disability and he is actively suing his old company for $2 million for "wrongful termination". From the sounds of it, he has no case, but the company is a huge well-known lender, so they may be looking for a settlement.
I mean, yes - these two are the most miserable people I have ever known, but how? How do they keep getting loans and credit? How do they not have any shame or pride? How? Why? I just don't get it.
I knew them during their first go-round, and I chalked it up to ignorance, and learned my lesson vicariously - don't let your credit get out of control and that buying $100 worth of fricken DOILEYS for your house while your kids eat naked spaghetti for dinner because you don't have grocery money is not a good thing. (Seriously - and that was HIM who bought the doileys, not her!)
Sorry to rant here, but it seemed like a good spot. Thanks for bearing with me Poppa <3
Don't feel bad Karmaa, I completely understand.
I'm on the edge of the debt sinkhole myself. All I need is a part-time $8/hour job and I can hold on to my house, but I'm almost 63 and white and male, so I have 3 strikes against me when I open the door and walk to the street. I have never been arrested, never had even a moving violation on my driving record. My credit score is still 700, but that is not going to last forever. I've got a call in to a trusted real estate agent to come by here and give me some professional advice - but I'm afraid I already know what she is going to say. My neighborhood is going "Detroit". People don't just throw trash out of their cars - they throw BAGS of trash out of their cars. I love my house, but I don't need to sit here and watch what's happening any longer. I went through this in Memphis almost 30 years ago and never imagined that it would happen again. I had someplace to go back then. These are scary days for a lot of people.
Have you looked into a reverse mortgage?
I owe too much. I applied for a foreclosure prevention loan last Friday and will hear something about that in 30 - 60 days. That will take the pressure off if it's approved, but i still need to be working, if only to preserve my sanity. I could refinance if I was even making $400 a week, but even though I have gotten some nice emails from places I have applied it doesn't take a whole lot to be "better qualified" for what's out there. It's hard to sell my experience, maturity, and good judgement in this market. I filled out an online ap with a major manufacturer yesterday. One of the questions was "How often have you hit a fellow employee because they disrespected you?" WTF???
Sorry about that. What kind of work do you do, and where are you near?
I live within a couple of miles of Wingate University outside Charlotte NC. My professional training was in fine art and I designed and built furniture and cabinets in my own shop for 13 years out of college. Then I got into working in home building and finally land surveying which I really loved and would go back to if I could. Union County (where I live) was the fastest growing county in NC back in the boom days (2000 -2004). Now there's nothing but part time. I wouldn't mind part time at all. Might prefer it really because I've been "retired" long enough to get lazy.
With building experience, why don't you do something like handyman work?
