The simple solution to the Puerto Rican problem is to grant them independence, whether they want it or not.
You would think they want independence, since they keep rejecting the offer to become a state. But then, if they became a state, they would have to pay income taxes, as long as they aren't collecting welfare, which is probably their biggest industry.
Their biggest industry is government. I heard yesterday they have the most government workers, now I didn't catch if it was in the USA or this side of the world. Either way that is a BIG problem, but yes if they have so many government workers whose job is to tax in order to give money away and the working class is shrinking, all is going to heck over there.

I understand what you're saying, but government isn't an industry. Neither is welfare, which I mentioned as an industry. Industry is a productive endeavor that produces a product and a profit. Government and welfare do neither. They are the adult equivalent of giving an allowance to your children, which is basically what government considers citizens.
Of course, I know what industry per se is, but you know what I mean. Government is seen as a business and yet the people within in don't know how to run it successfully. Obama's you didn't build that comment exemplifies it. As an "industry" it was the government that built it and therefore it is proper to pay the government for the benefit of supplying for the needs of the citizens, even if the citizens don't want it like Obamacare. The truth being of course that the government is supposed to be a servant and as a servant is given enough funds for it to function and to do the things that it is constitutionally supposed to do and no more and no less. Once the government decides not to stay on its lane then we have what we have.
Yes, I know what you mean. I was just trying to point out that I have said the same thing, and it is becoming a natural assumption to say such a thing, even though we know it's wrong. It's just more of the subtle conditioning the left has been working on for the last 120 years.

It's been that way pretty much since we annexed them. It almost seems like we felt sorry for them, so we annexed then and sent them money to live on. Just like if they were our kids. Because of that, they never had to "grow up" and become adults. Instead of one city, we have made an entire country a welfare state.

Puerto Rico is not a state it is a Commonwealth/Territory of the USA. It is supposed to be autonomous. However, due to its position it will get bailed out by the USA. Unless Obama/Congress cuts them loose. I can see that happening, now that Puerto Rico has failed to be of use to the USA and it is only bringing it down.
Hawaii is a state and it is very crazy over there with the welfare state, now that will be difficult to let go.
