Anxious Greeks emptying their bank accounts

Anxious Greeks emptying their bank accounts. Last one to leave Greece, please turn out the lights (assuming any are still lit.)

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • Step 1. Create a massive a welfare state

Step 2. Run out of money

Step 3. Prime Minister and his government run out office

Step 4. Beg other Euro Zone members and the IMF for a bailout

Step 5. Citizens panic and start a run on the banks

Step 6. New government closes and then nationalize the banks

Step 7. New government tells people how much access to their own money is allowed.

Step 8. Government clamps down "for the common good" and to prevent further rioting and civil disobedience.

Step 9. The road to serfdom is complete.

  • What are they going to do, bury it in their can? ;-)

Seriously, collapsing the banks is one way to make sure the money you have only worth using as toilet paper!

  • This will ensure the country completely collapses. And they are still rioting for the Government to spend more.

    • It boggles the mind.

This is not rocket science. It's not some esoteric economic theory. This is simple arithmetic - money in, money out. ANYONE should be able to understand this, and I believe that most do.

But they want to have their cake and eat it too. Give me my freebies, and cut someone else's. Don't tax me, don't tax thee, tax the fellow behind the tree.

NJ is not far behind. My property taxes have reached the amount my parents paid for their house. And I'm living in one of the lower-tax counties in northern NJ ( I live in the "slums" of a generally a wealthy town. My house -2,500 sf - is what I call bulldozer bait. If I tore the house down, I would increase the value of the property - the most money I could get would be from a builder who will replace the house with a 6000 sf McMansion). Everyone complains, everyone talks about moving, and the same crooks get re-elected over and over and over.
