If they called the mark an "Obaam" or some such nonsense a large percentage of our population would jump in line to get one.
Pets are microchipped. A few human beings have been willing microchipped with their medical records. An employer wanted to microchip its employees a few years back, but they dropped it after howls of protest. Rumor is that the King of Saudi Arabia (or maybe it's Crown Prince?) wants any released detainees from Gitmo to be microchipped so we can know their whereabouts. I just don't think this is as sci-fi out there as some here think. When I first heard of the possibility of human beings being microchipped in the late 90s, I confess that I thought of the Scripture Wayward brought up.
Does the Crown Prince of Saudi actually believe that the chips wouldn't be cut out of the terrorists within a couple days of releasing them?
Not if they implanted them where I would it wouldn't. Not voluntarily anyway.

there's no way to get full compliance on the whole "lets barcode every newborn" thing.. There'd be riots.. You can't even get everyone to vaccinate their kids for polio nowadays
The "sci-fi" aspect is not the technology involved. Its the idea that a population is so well engineered, cowed and convinced that such a thing is necessary. I don't know anyone who thinks its a good idea.
I view fears of installment of Centrally Planned Economy through the same lens. Private interests are simply too powerful to allow it to happen. One would have to be batshit insane to even make the attempt. We have nothing like the instability that Russia or China had after being ravaged by war and mass suffering. China doesn't even pretend that central planning works anymore
JustAnAubie gave a good scenario of how something like this could happen. I agree that we are racing towards a world economic collapse. We are limiting fossil fuel production without sufficient alternative energy to fill the void. A war in the middle east could cut off oil imports. That would bring America's transportation and manufacturing to it's knees. Economic collapse!
These few things taking place together could throw the world into chaos. Most Americans, along with the rest of the world would look for a messiah, a savior.
I am increasingly convinced the world is in fact being setup for the Antichrist system of command and control that will eventually lead to the introduction of the Mark of the Beast fulfilling Bible prophecy.

BTW, downtown Boston was close to gridlock at 6pm earlier, as Vice-Putz Biden was coming through.
I would not be so certian that there is not somebody in a backroom somewhere working on exactly this, or worse. I am a moderate, but I learned early on DON"T TRUST THE GOVERNMENT! Peopl wouild nevr sleep again if the knew what was being done, taught, developed and built in Government labs and offices.
I agree, this is just Sci-Fi Empress of the Universe fantasy.. The fait is nearly accompli anyhow: just have to bring the cost of scanning and sequencing DNA down, and perhaps barcode some twins, triplets..etc
I was waiting in line at Walgreens pharmacy just a couple days ago and saw a home DNA Paternity Kit for $29.99!! "What the FLAGELLUM??", I said.
I thought those things were still like $200
Who needs a home paternity kit? Maury is still on the air, isn't he?

Nonetheless, if computer systems malfunctioned, electricity supplies failed, or even batteries went flat, we might still need some other form of identification: if only it were possible to assign, say, two or three signifying terms from a fairly extensive pool of multiple appellations which, combined with a temporal registration of nativity, would work practically well at identifying individual people specifically, within a database of easily stored records, particularly if we could somehow design a unique feature on, say, people’s hands—a pattern of whorls and lines and such, for instance—which could make an impression or mark on storable materials with equipment of quite simple technological manufacture…
Why does everyone need to be identifiable? I don't care who you are, why should you care who I am?
To be quite clear, since my sarcasm seems to have been insufficiently obvious: I was saying that people ought to have names, and fingerprints would be a great invention.

This gets into some areas of the Bible I don't spend a lot of time in. But, it is scary the way some were willing to make Obama out to be a messiah. I can see this type of scenario happening in the future.
This is scary shit. And her reasons for doing it were specious at best. Nope, this is all part of the plan...it is indeed about control and I believe this is going to happen in due time. I so don't want to sound like a lunatic but the Greece? The Euro? Runs on the banks? I spent many years in TV news and we used to laugh that if only the viewing public knew how close we came to crashing and burning on a daily basis (remember this is live TV so possibility or error was quite high) by one tiny little break in the chain of events be it a bad mic cable or the BNC connector pulled off the video cable at an inopportune time.
I say all this to say we are this close to financial collapse and that Europe hangs by a thread. That any little thing could go wrong and the results could be catastrophic. That will spread world wide and the whole earth could be in chaos. I know I'm rambling but I do believe the Mark of the Beast will be what comes out of the rubble of a financial collapse. Every time I read one of these stories I realize we're headed towards a bumpy ride.
