Barney Frank pitches hissy fit when ferry won’t give him a $1 senior discount

barney frank ferry senior discount

As a member of the House of Representatives, Barney Frank is forced to scrape by on a mere $174,000 annual salary. So it’s no wonder he’s so interested in saving a buck here and there.

The New York Post reports the New York pout:

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank caused a scene when he demanded a $1 senior discount on his ferry fare to Fire Island’s popular gay haunt, The Pines, last Friday. Frank was turned down by ticket clerks at the dock in Sayville because he didn’t have the required Suffolk County Senior Citizens ID. A witness reports, “Frank made such a drama over the senior rate that I contemplated offering him the dollar to cool down the situation.” Frank made news last year when he was spotted looking uncomfortable around a bevy of topless, well-built men at the Pines Annual Ascension Beach Party. Frank’s spokesperson confirmed to Page Six that his partner, James Ready, asked the ticket office for a regular ticket for himself and a senior ticket for Frank, “but was turned down because Frank didn’t have a resident ID.”

We are so damn proud of ourselves. A story involving Barney Frank and a ferry and we didn’t go for the obvious joke.

  • That photo makes him look like he's got something uncomfortable stuck where the sun don't shine. And thanks Ed, for missing the obvious jokes!

  • Wow. Bwahney Fwank. Why isn't New York embarrassed by having a senator like him? When does he come up for re-election? Him/her and Hillary. Jeeez. Almost as bad as us, on the left-most coast with Skanky Pelosi, Bouncing Barbara (she IS a boob, but I'm not referring to her boobs!) and the Clown Carnival in Sacto. What a mess. And then we have the Messiah.....

  • Hey, congratulations on not going for the obvious joke. I think we enhance our dignity as conservatives when we keep the general thrust of our writing aimed at the target, ya know?

  • It's all a big mistake - the ticket taker didn't understand Barney shouting "it's a dow-wah, it's own-we a dow-wah...."

  • Well, given the hissy fit he threw, I guess when he's finally voted out of office he can get a new career as a drama queen.

Kudos to the editor for not going after the obvious line. What a guy !! ;-)

  • If I was a man and I was gay I would be sure disgusted at the idea of this guy being around me. The amount of SOMETHING that it will be needed to let a guy like this touch me... EWWWWWWWWWW. I don't care how gay I would be I just don't think I would have in me to let this guy touch me. NO way. No matter how much power and money he got.

    yuck.

You would think that at a gay club with, I would assume a much younger boyfriend, he would want to downplay the fact that he is so obviously old. So he doesn't care that people see him as an old man who is gay, he is just very cheap and wants a bargain wherever he goes. How interesting. Money is more important to him than appearances (well considering how he looks I guess that is obvious). I just thought that gays placed a lot of emphasis on appearances, not in his case.

  • God, imagine how he reacts when he finds out he has to pay for the movie in the buddy booth

  • It's not the buck, it's the principle of government subsidization. He's a major player in the big-government caused recession, with that success under his belt he doesn't think he has to give an inch in any other gov't subsidization program.

    • If he was spending someone elses money, he would be fine with it. He has no problem spend other people's money. He is a tightwad with his cash, maybe he can transfer that philosophy into his congressional budget proposals.

  • He's mad because they didn't "bend over backwards" for him and give him his discount. Or maybe just "bend over backwards?"
