Texans are historically "pull yourself by your bootstraps" type people. No wonder the hard working are leaving Kalifornia for Texas!
As long as they don't bring California politics with them, and realize that Texas is NOT California, and don't try to make it into California, I don't have a problem. California's economy has brought all sorts of new businesses to Texas, including fast food chains we used to not have. My own company has moved its corporate headquarters from Manhattan to Texas because of the stunning realization that real estate is much, much cheaper here.
Great another round of carpetbaggers come to F*** up the state again. We barely survived the great MichiganIllinoisIndianaWisconsin migration in the 80's. I'm kidding of course...
I'm not. Texas has a fairly popular bumper sticker that reads
"Welcome to Texas! Now go the hell home!" The weirdos move here, then try to make this the same as the sewer they left behind. YOu like Texas, fine. You want to make it an annex of somewhere else, go the hell home and we'll all be happy!
Well since we are willing to work hard to get that money I am not surprised.

California: rife with frivolous litigation.
In 2002, I was in negotiations to buy into a home inspection company with a businessman from the Sacramento area. Things were going along well and I was seriously preparing to relocate and join in until, alas, we got to the part of discussing overhead costs related to liability insurance and legal fees.
This fellow stated that in 2001, according to an LA Times story, 50% of all adults in California were involved in lawsuits as either defendants or plaintiffs. He divulged that he had been sued four times in eight years, losing once. He said that the line items I was concerned about on his financials (high liability insurance premiums and retainer fees) are considered an accepted part of business.
After a few hours of consideration, I called him back and declined going into business with him. Sunny and warm 320 days a year is a climate I could enjoy. Served papers and in court 50% of my time is not an economic climate I cared to endure.

Texas history is part of every schoolchild's curriculum in Texas, regardless of race...or at least it used to be. I'm sure they're served the politically correct version now.
