Belgium went without a government for 589 days. And everything went swimmingly. Maybe even better than otherwise. So don’t let the politicians in D.C. sell you any scare stories.

  • Yeah and some of those furloughed Belgian government employees walked straight on down to the canal district and partook of some taxpayer supported sexual holiday compensation and then walked across the street, to the state medical clinic and partook of about 50cc of state allocated penicillin. What do you think Barney Frank is doing right now?

    • Yeah, and 29.9% of those laid off government workers also claimed psychological hardship, due to not being able to providing for their families, and requested to have themselves euthanized.

      • That euthanasia thing is going to be soooo popular when it gets going over here. I was not aware of it until I read the post about it yesterday.

        • I'm thinking that one of the unintended consequences of readily available euthanasia here will be all of the wacko lefties and otherwise godless crowd who will take advantage of it and kill themselves off and leave the world to the 'meek' and that's how we'll inherit it! Hey, I can dream can't I?

          • There is a lot of euthanasia going on in America. And everyone involved is being hunted by the government and charged with manslaughter at the least for their participation in any way in planned suicide.

          • I am actually for euthanasia in certain cases. I have watched several family members die very slow deaths with cancer or after surviving strokes. It does annoy me that we treat suffering pets better then people in cases like that. Now, before I'm beaten up for this view, I know that there will be those who would totally abuse this if legalized, especially with Obamacare coming. But if there was a legit way to allow people who wish to end real pain & suffering, & it is on the up & up, I would have no problem.

            BTW, people like Zeke Emanuel need not apply.

          • As a lay person I am for euthanasia, particularly if it is at the persons' own requests. As a nurse, seeing greedy, grasping relatives fighting vocally and loudly over inheritance, fault, and every other dysfuntion a family can produce, I am a little leery. Who makes the decision to "end Mamas suffering" especially when inheritance is a factor? Slipery slope.

          • I don't think anybody will beat you up. I'm strongly against euthanasia for philosophical reasons but I understand the misery at end of life can be horrible. I'm watching it right now.

            All that being said, I dislike the pets analogy. I dislike any attempt to place animal life on a par with human life. We treat human beings differently because we are created in God's image and therefore our physical existence is of ultimate value. We have an example of this: God let his only Son suffer on the cross.

            Maybe when suffering is great and the person suffering chooses to stop struggling for life, maybe that kind of euthanasia is acceptable, even to be encouraged. Let them know they can go without fear and without guilt. But the danger is allowing liberal statist bureaucrats to get ahold of the idea and enshrine it by legal fiat... because then people will be killed left and right, as in Belgium and the Netherlands.

            I dunno JP. I've had some dogs I prefer over a lot of people I've met in my life.
            I, personally, favor letting a terminal and suffering person decide to end their own life rather than to continue having to live in pain because some law says it's "the right thing to do".
            Right for who? The person suffering? The loved ones of the person suffering? The doctors and pharma companies who are getting paid to KEEP the person suffering?

            My lady is a hospice nurse here in Germany. Many of the doctors here refuse to give narcotics to terminally ill people for the pain because THEY ARE AFRAID THEY MIGHT GET ADDICTED! And the ones who will prescribe it, when it comes time to up the dosage to manage the pain.....well, an act of God is just the starting point. THEN you get the paperwork, the multiple layers of bureaucrats, and all the associated crap that comes with that.

            By the time it MIGHT get approved, the patient may have already died...or wish they could.

          • And the really stupid part of that is that 1) people in severe pain do not get the "high" associated with addiction, and 2) Who cares? That hasbeen an ongoing problme in the US for decades. You can give patients in extreme pain a dow of painkillers that woul dkill an elephant and they go on like its aspirin. The key is to medicate to comfort, without zonking them out all the time. A fine line to be sure, but one worth trying to walk for the patient and fr the family and community of which he is a part.

          • As much as I am against euthanasia, when I read about men who kill their wives out of love, to end their misery, I am virulently against legal prosecution. Counseling, help them come to grips with what they did, let them know they are forgiven, and then leave them alone. Some issues belong with God, not some dumbass judge appointed by a weenie politician.

          • The meek shall inherit the earth...if that's alright with you?

            Personally, I believe the meek will inherit the crap, and I prefer to stand and fight....and will NOT ask if that's alright with you.

  • The leftists here all want to be like the euros but I doubt in this way. They would prefer to throw another layer of government on top of us.

    • They forget that European Countries are smaller than many of our states (of course, you have to looke at the flyover states for that to be evident.) What works in a tiny economy is not as likely to work with a country the size of America, with the differences in access, food, petrol mass transit, etc. WE ARE NOT EUROPE. Or ancestors came her to get AWAY from Europe! Why go back?

  • The progressive scum here are doing everything they can to make sure that it is the little guy who feels the pain of this "shutdown"- just like the so-called sequester. It's civilian employees that are getting furloughed... people who want to visit a national park are SOL- and it's not that the parks will simply not be staffed- these cynical anti American swine are going to the extra effort to secure parks in an effort to prevent people from accessing them as the petulant man-child Obama is throwing a tantrum and taking his toys home Will members of congress still receive pay? Of course- and the Treasodent's unconstitutional health care law that was illegally rammed through is not affected.

    We need a revolution NOW.

  • 589 day? Hell, that's nothing.
    America has been without a REAL government for about 5 years.....of course the only thing "going swimmingly" is the economy, and we all know what that's swimming in.
