If a Republican had said this it would be front page news for days. We still hear about that damn "potatoe" every so often and Wikipedia has a section on it in Quayle's bio. To no one's surprise that same site fails to mention any of Biden's foot-in-mouth disasters.
Does the Wikipedia entry mention that it was the teacher who misspelled the word on the flashcard?
