He's got a point.
On average, senators are more big-government, more out-of-touch, more mentally stuck inside the Beltway. That is because on average, they have spent a lot more time in government in general, and in DC in particular. So in some cases, we might be better off with new democrats than old, entrenched republicans.
But that does not change something called principle. And in principle, his position is no different than the concentration camp guard using not even the "I was following orders" defense, but the more absurd "everyone else was doing it" defense.
