Carney: Internet Sales Tax “Is Simply About Leveling The Playing Field”: Uh-oh it looks like sales of the Ford Edsel and AYDS weight loss candy are not what they should be. Perhaps the administration could level the playing field for those guys as well with another obnoxious tax on those hit hardest by Obamanomics -the Middle Class.

I am n the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. Amazon was forced to collect tax here. Just look to terrible economic conditions and loss of liberty in the PRoK to see what 0bama has in mind for the rest of the USA. You know because it is fair.
Amazon is also forced to collect sales tax her in Texas, since they opened a big shipping facility here.
Anyone have a list of the companies who are supporting this tax? I would love to never spend another dime on any of them. Maybe if brick and mortar retail stores had the customer service and prices that Amazon provides, maybe they'd be doing better.
Amazon and the like don't get business because they are cheaper. By the time you add shipping costs, the prices are essentially the same as the brick and mortar stores. The difference is the customer service and rhe convenience. Its easy to order, to return if necessary and generally questions get answered. I get so annoyed when I am in a store, and there is not an employee to be found, except maybe the cleaning crew, who are not in a position to help you find items, answer questions, etc. Brick and Mortar stores have downsized their staffs to the point where they may as well not have one. Just automated check outs until the store closes for lack of business.
With Amazon Prime and with the free shipping possibilities that are widely available, I can buy things at Amazon that I would have to waste time, and gas to go find at a store if I am willing to wait a week or a week and a half and sometimes shipping is fast that I can't believe it. If you don't conform to certain free shipping guidelines obviously they do tack the shipping fee, however like I said you can avoid shipping fees in many ways. Also there is the convenience especially with pills and supplements of having auto shipping and stuff like that that is much more reliable and that frankly you can't do with stores. Add to that as you said the customer service and convenience and return policies Amazon (and others as well like Overstock.com) have brick and mortar businesses licked.
A lot of items are cheaper ESPECIALLY if you buy them used and you go with reliable Amazon storefronts. In some cases in some of those storefronts you can still get free shipping and/or if you have Prime and so on. Also in many cases you can find stuff there that you will never find at a store like someone said for like old computers or whatever.
Stores are wrong to ally themselves with this. This is not going to solve their problems it will just make things bad for all of us.
This sales tax bill won't do a damned thing to slow internet sales.
Ease of finding items, and cost savings all offset the difference even if we do have to pay the tax. The only ones to gain from this are the state governments.
True. Although I was upset that I have to pay taxes now, in the end it was worth it for me to go with the purchases because the alternative was worse.
I'll still shop at Amazon. The local camera shops don't even carry these.

I'd have to drive to San Francisco to get one. That's $60 in fuel for my truck, plus probably $20 to park, along with all the frustration of being in San Francisco. Either that, or special order one from a camera shop, and pay top dollar for it. No thanks. I can get two from Amazon for what it would cost me to get one locally. And I need three.
Amazon does get buisness because you can usually find what you are looking for. Total prices are 1 thing, but getting what you are looking for is another. Just got some things in the mail from them 30 minutes ago. All shit I could'nt find at a mall.

Actually, Amazon DOES end up being cheaper in photographic supplies, because camera shops are obscenely expensive. And they only carry the name brand stuff. I can get five off-brand flashes for the cost of one Canon flash, and they work wonderfully. The only thing in my entire bag that says Canon on it is the camera itself.
Writing what I wrote below no joke the bell rang it was the post person and she brought me an amazon smile box with my cookbook in it and a supplement I ordered seven days ago or so. I wouldn't have been able to find it in a store. It was marked to come tomorrow and it came today instead. It was cheap, I got it for free shipping. Just sayin' my point all in all has been made.
I was about to post that. All they have to do is is remain and be competitive and they would be fine and/or associate themselves with Amazon and open amazon storefronts of their own. This is purely envy and using the government as a weapon against online retailers. We are already been hit with the taxes. In the past couple of months Amazon was preparing for it and in the past few purchases from there they already hit me with taxes. If this continues they will forego free shipping and it will be just like any other store which is what these people want. It is disgusting.

Bullsh!t. Taxing the internet is a payback to large retailers who have actual stores. Amazon does these places no favors. When I can't find something I'm looking for, I usually find it there.
It's where most of my photographic equipment comes from.
