I think their big mistake was changing from "global warming" to "climate change". At that point a lot of people started thinking: They just want to control everyone whether it's getting warmer or cooler.
All I had to do was see that the link was to motherjones.com to know it was an insane article.

I think they "lost" the minute they started placing their case in a religious context...boxing up people as "believers" and "deniers" and falling back on emotion rather than reason (but I can't see how a liberal could do otherwise than think with emotion.) The icing on the cake was Climategate. May a tsunami carry Al Gore's beachside mansion into the sea...
You wanna see true denial... Just read some of the comments on that chart. Insanity! They do realize the earth pumps out a TREMENDOUS ammount of pollutants everytime there's a major eruption..right? Nuke Hawaii their lil troppical paradise is killing our O-Zone!
I'd laugh if it weren't so insane! I don't know how these people take themselves seriously... If I didn't know better, I'd guarantee the story was an onion piece. Alas, its real life...
The article does read like an Onion piece and the chart is a paranoid schizophrenic's dream.
