  • Notice how fast they have decided to press criminal charges in this case, but the "horse-meat for the rest of us" scandal is "being investigated"? Message: Feel free to screw anyone over for a buck, but don't mess with the muslims or you'll be eating institutional mystery meat from behind bars. Have a nice day!

• The article says that this episode hasn't affected the quality of the water supply at all. What does that say about the quality of the water supply?

  • Hey, flavored drinking water is all the rage now.

    • Beware the imported Chinese drinking water that comes in refreshing Pig poo, and drowned pork flavors....

      • And beware any farm fish from China, because they're probably raising the fish in that same water. Pork-flavored tilapia, yum.

        • I have seen articles about how shrimp is raised in Asian countries. If I think about it too much, I think about becoming vegetarian - it's pretty disgusting. Dead pig water would probably be an improvement.

        • And I saw a news report - maybe 60 Minutes - that showed a fish farm. Basically, there was an industrial plant of some sort with a drainage pond which drained downhill into a fish pond which drained downhill into a second fish pond which sold it's product to exporters shipping to the USA. They asked that last fish farmer, "Don't you worry about the quality of the water?" He didn't have a good answer. I refuse to eat fish ever since unless I know where it came from.

          You have to be really careful because they try to disguise the Chinese origin. "Packaged in Thailand" I suspect is drainage pond fish from China shipped to Thailand to be re-shipped to the USA with a better-looking country on the label.

          Meanwhile, tilapia is a farmed fish that's on all the restaurant menus but it's got very little food value. You almost have to have a doctorate in nutrition to know how to eat.

        • I don't like fish in chili. Lots of beans, plenty of hot stuff, a touch of sugar, and a bit of cumin. No fish.

          "Where does your salmon come from?"

          "Uh, the water?"

          Or my favorite question:

          "Is this really scallops or do you cut little circles out of some kind of junk fish and sell them as scallops?"

          And yet, because I tip like a millionaire lotto winner, wait staff love me. Go figure.

      • If 16,000 thousand have floated through Shanghai, how many altogether have died? Most of them probably sank to the bottom and were eaten by fishies, or floated through to the ocean and fed the sharks. I coulda made a fortune buying pork futures.

• Hey, speaking of Oriental Communism, remember the story a couple weeks back about the North Korean computer game where you drive around Pyongyang? Well, it didn't work then or not for me at least, but I just was back to the site and had a go at it this time. It's really not bad, about on par with a lot of simple online games. You just drive around and find the barrels to keep you fueled up and collect tokens for sightseeing spots. Kind of funny, it pokes fun at you for driving too slow and the lady traffic cop asks if you just got your license, etc. It's not propaganda as much as an advertisement from the tour company that commissioned it.
